The 2018 SCCA AAR Road Rally Season continues with another GTA event on Thusday, April 26.
Note to all interested in participating - An accurate clock, a device is searchable maps, access to the internet, would all be extremely helpful but are not required. All travel will be on maintained paved roads that should be navigable with any legal vehicle.
This Road Rally will be a GTA event, also known as a Game, Touring, and Adventure rally. Here's the description from the SCCA web page:
GTA Rallies, named for their "Game, Tour and Adventure" elements, GTA rallies are like Course Rallies, but without average speeds and checkpoint timing. Scoring is typically based on your ability to correctly answer questions about things that you see along the rally route.
This Rally will begin from the parking lot at Carl's Jr in Eagle River. All registrations must be paid-in-full before Registration closes on Thursday April 26 at 6pm.
All competitors will need to come by Registration upon arrival — both those who registered online and those who register at the event Thursday. You will then head to Tech for your vehicle inspection. Vehicles already inspected during one of our prior events in 2017, or a 2017 PCA AK event, should pass inspection quickly. Remember, Road Rally events are held on public roads at legal speeds, so insurance and vehicle registration is the driver's responsibility.
Our orientation will include a brief talk by the Rallymaster. It will cover the basics of how to read the directions and how to successfully complete this event. This is event will run rain, snow, sleet, or shine so please be prepared.
Please arrive early to allow time to settle your gear, prepare your car, and get through Tech Inspection before orientation. Remember, this event is more about having a fun drive than racing, and your vehicle needs to be road-worthy.
Don't forget your Driver's License!
Event requirements
REGISTRATION and ENTRY FEES
The event does not have an entry cap. Registration is required for entry, and the entry fee is $10 for SCCA Members and non-members. A weekend membership is required for non-members and can be added for no additional charge. Weekend memberships purchased/received for Road Rally events are eligible to go towards a full membership.
Short version of entry fees:
Driver fee: $10
Navigator fee: $10

Note: All cars must have a driver and a navigator, for a total of $20 per car.
DRIVERS LICENSES AND WAIVER
Minor Waivers: Competitors must present a valid driver’s license and sign the Event Waiver. If any competitors or other riders in any competition vehicle are under 18 years-of-age, a Minor Waiver signed by both parents (or legal guardians) must be signed and presented to the Rally Master prior to competition. Contact the Rally Master (Sayrah) at slangmill@gmail.com to obtain a Minor Waiver form.
Helmets: Helmets are not required for Road Rally.
CLASSES, CAR PREPARATION AND MODIFICATIONS
The 2018 SCCA Alaska Region will offer two driver classes: Open and Novice. Cars will have two classes as well: unprepared and prepared.
Each competitor will be required to present their vehicle ready for inspection to the Tech Inspection Team immediately following Registration. Vehicles shall have mufflers, working seatbelts, and NO leaking fluids, in addition to the other items on the Tech Sheet.
Since this event is held on public roads, vehicles without current registration or proof of insurance will be denied entry.
Drivers/navigators can register as Novice if they have participated in fewer than 5 Road Rally GTA, Tour, and/or TSD events at any level (regional, national, etc) with any organization. Open will be for all other participants. The car will be classed as Open if one or both competitors are registered in the Open class. Individual team classing may be changed at the RallyMaster's discretion.
NOTE: Route instructions may be differently formatted for teams registered as Novice and Open.
Cars will be classified as Unprepared as long as there is no on-board rally computer or any device physically or wirelessly connected to the vehicle that calculates distance, speed, or time not standard for the vehicle from its manufacturer. Cell phones that are not connected to the vehicle are allowed in the unprepared class. Vehicle class will be taken from the Driver's registration.
Drivers and Navigators are advised not to break any laws, including traffic and speed laws, for the state of Alaska or the United States of America while participating in or attending any sanctioned event.
