PCA-LA Wheels to Water

Los Angeles Yacht Club

About this event

Come join us on Saturday, May 13th, for our third annual Wheels to Water event.  The Los Angeles Yacht Club® will be our hosts, and they plan a very special adventure for us.

Activities for Wheels to Water III start with a run from Marina del Rey through the South Bay beach communities into the Palos Verdes Peninsula and ending at the L.A. Yacht Club in San Pedro.  The run will be about 90 minutes, and the route will be similar to last year’s but will explore different areas of Palos Verdes.  We will meet up starting at 9 am and will begin the run at 9:30 am.

Once at the Yacht Club we will relax, socialize with their members, and have a car show.  The car owners from both clubs will gather their cars in the lot adjacent to the club, which will be monitored throughout the day and evening.

Lunch will be served buffet style inside the Club and will be as delicious as last year’s.  The Angels Gate Bar has a fine selection of wines and craft beers as well as soft drinks.  Following lunch will be a raffle with an assortment of unique gifts.

After lunch and the raffle the L.A. Yacht Club will have the newest additions to their fleet on display.  We can board and peruse each and hear their captains discuss their boats, much as we lovingly talk about our Porsches.

Finally at about 3:30 we will walk down to the end of the dock and board one of “The Official Tall Ships of the City of Los Angeles” for a 2 to 3 hour sunset cruise.  The Irving Johnson and Exy Johnson each will take 40 passengers.  If we can fill up both boats with 80 people (both PCA-LA and LA Yacht Club members), there will be a mock battle with canons blazing.  The cruise should finish up at approximately 6:30.  There will be plenty of opportunities for adventurous fun by climbing up the rigging with the crew.  This will definitely be a lively voyage and one not to be missed.

The costs for this unique event will be $10 for each auto and $85 per person for the buffet lunch and Tall Ship cruise.  People are allowed to sign up for the run only, but the lunch and cruise are a package.  Your credit card will be charged at the close date for this event, and cancellations with refunds will not be accepted afterwards.  We must have an exact head count and some costs must be prepaid.

The revenue for the cruise helps maintain the vessels and directly supports the Los Angeles Maritime Institute’s scholarship programs for underserved youth.  For further information please visit their website at https://lamitopsail.org/
