About this event
Join us for a tour to Mount St Helens thirty-two years after the big eruption. Twisty roads and beautiful scenery are sure to make you blow your top… albeit laterally. The tour takes us to the Science and Learning Center, so bring your kids! See www.bmworegoncca.com/calendar for details.
We plan to meet at the Cascade Cars & Coffee near the Portland Airport off NE Cascades Parkway near Red Robin. Members are encouraged to arrive with a full tank of gas prior to arriving at Cars and Coffee. A gas stop will be made at Castle Rock before continuing on up 504 E to the Johnston Ridge Observatory.
Location:
Cascade Cars & Coffee

Time: 10:00 AM
There is a planned lunch stop (no-host) in Castle Rock before continuing up Hwy 504 E / Spirit Lake Hwy to the Johnston Ridge Observatory, on the North side of the mountain. There we can admire the views and learn about how 110,000 acres surrounding Mount St Helens became a National Volcanic Monument, where the environment has been left to regenerate naturally from a vast, grey landscape to one with lush greenery and wildlife.
Take your kids and make this an educational tour for everyone! The observatory hosts interpretive displays and offers film showings, ranger talks, a souvenir shop, and a food cart. Johnston Ridge Observatory admission is $8/person/day; children ages 15 and under have free admission.
