MBCA Peachtree - October Mountain Run to Brasstown Bald

Please join us on Saturday October 3rd for our MBCA Peachtree October Mountain Run as we meet up at UNG's Lot 5 next to Dahlonega Square for a scenic drive and socially distant picnic at Brasstown Bald.
This event is free and open to members and non-members alike. Mercedes cars are preferred but all are welcome. Hopefully non members will decide to join the club!
Please note: Brasstown Bald is a national park. They charge a $5 per adult fee to enter the parking area. This fee is for admission to the entire park including the summit.
Our day will begin at 10:30am as we gather at the historic Dahlonega Square. There is a coffee shop on the square, and Starbucks nearby. We will start the run at 10:45 with more aggressive drivers leading the pack. (If you aren't sure about your driving style, please don't leave in the first group). The route will take us to the Richard B Russell By Way, where we will stop at Hogpen Gap for some photos. Then, continuing past Helen, we will head north to 180 and over to Brasstown Bald. If you have not visited Brasstown Bald, you are in for a treat. It is the highest point in the tr-state area. You can see 50 miles in all directions on a clear day. We will picnic in the large parking lot below the summit. After we eat, we will make our way to the top to enjoy the views, and then head home continuing on 180 west and southbound until we all go our separate ways.
We will also be presenting a time-speed-distance (TSD) rally in conjunction with the Mountain Run Drive. The route for the rally will be identical to the Drive, and time for sightseeing will be included. The rally will end at or before Brasstown Bald. The rally will run under a different set of route instructions, containing timed portions where participants will maintain a specified average speed and attempt to reach hidden checkpoints at exactly the right time. You will need a smartphone app to allow your arrival at checkpoints to be recorded. No other special equipment is needed, though a pen/pencil, clipboard and calculator may be useful. You will need to bring your own picnic lunch and folding chairs. We also ask that everyone set up in small socially distanced picnic groups and wear masks when closer than 6 feet to other attendees. The event is free. However, we will need participants to sign a liability waiver before the event. Also, we would like to know who is coming and what you plan to drive.
