Nemacolin-Fallingwater Tour

Nemacolin/Fallingwater

About this event

Back by popular demand!  Welcome to the 2017 PCA Nemacolin - Fallingwater Tour!

PCA Potomac’s Fallingwater trip has in the past been THE major overnight Drive and Dine event for PCA Potomac. This popular event combines an enjoyable drive to Pennsylvania’s Laurel Highlands, either 2 or 3 nights at the incredibly beautiful Nemacolin Resort, fine dining, scenic drives, and for those who have never seen them – a jawdropping tour of Frank Lloyd Wright’s legendary Fallingwater and Kentuck Knob homes.

The Nemacolin resort is one of only 6 hotels and resorts in the world to host Forbes Five-Star, AAA Five-Diamond lodging and dining, and has been upgraded continuously over the past decade. We have negotiated a $279 per night room rate (not including taxes / resort fees) in the luxurious Chateau Lafayette building,  a substantial savings over the rack rate.  Hotel reservation instructions follow below.

For those who have not been on this trip before, it is a fantastic opportunity to enjoy yourself and your Porsche in the mountains and to meet other Club Members and Porsche enthusiasts.  In the past, this has been one of the biggest overnight gatherings in the Region, with upwards of 30-40 vehicles and around 70 attendees.  And remember – Nemacolin has a dog spa (Nemacolin Wooflands) and many family activities!

For those who would like to make it a three day weekend, Mike Dougher will lead the scenic drive toward Nemacolin on Thursday, July 6.  The group will meet for cocktails that night, and a driving/touring day to some of the nearby resort towns on Friday.

For those coming up on Nemacolin on Friday, July 7, Glenn Havinoviski will lead the group over the scenic drive.  On Friday night, we will all get together for a BBQ on the deck of Mulligan's clubhouse overlooking the Golf Course.  You will be expected to show up in your finest casual Porsche finery,  with an award provided for the most Porsche-bedecked person as voted on by the attendees, who, it is warned, may or may not be in various states of inebriation.  So break out your Porsche socks, watches and tattoos (!?).

On Saturday, participants have the choice of participating in one or more activities, including he visit to Kentuck Knob,  golf, a mountain drive, and a Clay Shooting Tournament.  There is also ziplining, an art collection, the animal park, off-roading, and more.  Guests can also just relax and enjoy the spa, blow their earnings at the casino,  and enjoy other hotel facilities.  Check out www.nemacolin.com/activities.  (Note that extra fees may apply for the above activities.)

Saturday night,  we will have a change of pace compared to previous years.  We will have dinner away from the resort (about 9 miles) at a nice Italian place called Fabrizi's Cucina Fresca,  where they are reserving the entire restaurant for us!  They have an awesome menu with wide range of pastas, meats, fish and higher-end entrees, along with adult beverages.  Everyone will pay their own way.  We will provide a shuttle to the restaurant (included in your registration fee and recommended if you want to enjoy some vino or harder stuff). Check out their menu at www.fabrizis.com.

Sunday, participants can choose to relax at the resort, attend the Fallingwater tour or enjoy a mountain drive back home. Stragglers may enjoy a barbecue lunch on the way back at one of the legendary local places.

For those visiting Kentuck Knob and/or Fallingwater, these are legendary homes, known for how well they are integrated into the surrounding natural environment, including the use of indigenous materials and the way the home becomes an element of the natural topography.

The registration cost for 2017 is $140 per person which covers the Friday BBQ dinner,  as well as shuttle service to the Saturday night restaurant (dinner and drinks will be paid separately there), and finally, an official commemorative souvenir article of clothing!  Kentuck Knob tour fees are $20 per person and Fallingwater tour fees are $25 per person, both representing substantial discounts over the purchase of single tickets.  Advance registration is required by June 5, 2017 in order to ensure adequate planning for tours and dinner.  We will charge credit cards on file for this event on June 6, 2017.

PLEASE DO NOT FORGET TO BOOK YOUR HOTEL ROOM AT NEMACOLIN IMMEDIATELY! To book your room, please call Nemacolin reservations at (800) 422-2736 and press "2" which will get you to a hotel-based operator instead of the outsourced operator who does not have the block information. Our room block is reserved under "Porsche Club", and you can also state the group code of 10A4GY.   We have a block of 17 rooms on Thursday night and 35 for Friday and Saturday nights (meaning up to 17 rooms are available for those looking to stay all three nights).  Hotel reservations can be made through June 6 unless the block goes more quickly.
