NASA at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course

Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course

About this event

Hello and Thank you for your interest in our 2015 Instructor Clinics.

You are registering for the Mid-Ohio Instructor Clinic.  If you want the Gingerman or the Midwest clinic, please register using that event.  You need only attend and successfully pass one (1) of any of the clinics offered in either the Midwest or Great Lakes region to begin instruction for 2015.  You will not be able to register to instruct in HPDE until you attend and successfully pass any one of the three clinics.

This particular clinic will be held FRIDAY, June 05, 2015 at the Mid-Ohio GoodYear building next to the gas pumps.  We will start promptly at 0800.  We will provide lunch at noon.

A clinic is MANDATORY for ANY Instructor wishing to instruct in either the Great Lakes or Midwest Regions for the 2015 season and beyond.  This includes veteran NASA instructors, new NASA instructors and out of region NASA instructors.

Myself and our HPDE Group leader team (Midwest and Great Lakes regions) have spent a great deal of time fine tuning and expanding the new HPDE program to work within our new separate run group system.  HPDE run groups 1, 2, 3 and 4 will now run independently of one another.  HPDE 2 will now have in-car instruction for 2 of their 4 sessions per day.  Successfully taking and passing the instructor clinic will earn you a $325 credit for Instructing in HPDE 1 for 8 sessions per weekend.  There is also a racer-friendly Instructor offering in HPDE 2 at 2 sessions per day (4 per weekend).  This HPDE2 credit is $150.  Any credit earned for that weekend must be applied the same weekend you instruct.  No credits can be saved for use at a later date.  The credit can be used for any run group you are qualified to drive in for that weekend.

We want you and the entire instructor community to completely understand, ask questions, support, and be able to discuss your new HPDE curriculum with your students both on and off the track——this is just one of the reasons for the clinic.  We will be referring to and heavily relying on the Blue NASA HPDE Passport.  We will have more defined skills and terms, so that there is more consistency in both instructing and signing off students.  We will be using several feedback mechanisms for the student, group leader and instructors. These will include peer evaluations, student surveys and on-track observations to support creating and maintaining the best instructional program our region(s) have seen in many years.  We are also bringing back orange cones for Saturday sessions to support visual learning.  They will be off to the side of the driving surface and removed at the end of the day.  There will be no cones on Sunday.  We have many reasons to meet, in addition to communicating our new curriculum, introducing your new Group Leader staff, the FasTrack Coaches and our new process to yield better, safer, faster drivers within both regions.

Interested in attending?  Here is what you’ll want to do:

1.  Make sure your NASA Annual membership is current.  If you are new to NASA you’ll need to join and you can do that here: https://nasaproracing.com/

2.  If you have attended a NASA approved instructor clinic before (in ANY NASA region) and have successfully passed and either have a NASA Instructor license or proof of Instruction, you’ll want to register using the $25 sign up.  We will be cross referencing your submitted information to verify past instruction with NASA and will contact you with any questions.

A free lunch will be provided.  Bring your helmet, instructor to student communication device such as a Chatterbox http://www.chatterboxusa.com/tandem-pro-2 and a track car or equivalent to perform slow speed drills.  A tow vehicle such as a 3/4 ton truck would even work as would a passenger car or a two seat HPDE type car.  An in-car helmet to helmet communication device is required for this clinic and for the weekend.  Make sure yours has charged batteries and works properly.  For future reference, if your 2 way student communication device does not work, you may lose your opportunity to instruct for that weekend.  Our customers deserve the best and safety is paramount.  Please take this time to fully check your student to driver communication system and come prepared.

Each NASA member that successfully passes the Instructor clinic will receive two new 2015 Nasa Instructor t-shirts and one new 2015 Instructor hat.

3.  If you are new to NASA or have never instructed with NASA or have never attended a NASA Instructor clinic, you’ll want to register using the one-time fee of $150.  This is a one-time non-recurring fee.

Each NASA member that successfully passes the Instructor clinic will receive two (2) new 2015 NASA Instructor t-shirts and one (1) new 2015 Instructor hat.

Please contact me directly if you should have any questions at ericmeyer@nasagreatlakes.com.

Looking forward to having you as part of this event and to a truly spectacular 2015 Season!

Cheers!
