Matt Ammon Memorial Driving School and Teen Clinic

Bremerton Motorsports Park

About this event

Audi Club Northwest and Northwest Audi Dealers Group are proud to present the 10th annual Matt Ammon Memorial Driving School and Teen Clinic (MAMDS) sponsored by Audi Seattle!

For the second time we have a split venue that is required to work around the modifications at the Bremerton National Airport. The Driver Skills (DS) event will be held at Bremerton Motorsports Park/Circuit of the Northwest on Saturday May 14 and the High Performance Driver Education (HPDE) instructed lapping will be held at The Ridge Motorsports Park on Sunday May 15.

Who was Matt Ammon?  He bought his new Nogaro Blue Audi S4 in May of 2001 and became very active in local chapters of Audi Club North America in Ohio, Illinois, Virginia and Missouri before coming to the Seattle area in the Summer of 2006. Tragically, he was taken from us at age 31 in the November 2006 Bellevue construction crane collapse. In his short time with us Matt brought his enthusiasm, skill and knowledge to our region.  He quickly became integrated with the local Audi community and Audi Club Northwest as an Instructor. When asked what modifications should be made to your car, Matt would be quick to answer, “The first mod should be driving school.”  And this is the legacy we are honoring in this biggest driver learning event of our active season.

What is Driver Skills?  It is not like the experiences when we first earned our driver's license. This is an advanced DS course that is encouraged for all drivers, teens, novices or intermediate drivers.  It is an exciting opportunity to learn how you and your car work together in real life situations on the street and highway.  DS students will participate in a number of exercises (slalom, emergency braking, collision avoidance, figure-8) on Saturday morning and then run the DS Autocross in the afternoon.  There are just 40 slots available in this program.

What is an autocross? Drivers navigate through a course by following a route of cones that make up turns, gates and slaloms. Autocross is an excellent way to practice the car control skills learned in the morning's exercises.

More experienced drivers can register for the All-day Autocross on Saturday, which is held on a second course layout.  The All-day Autocross is for practiced drivers looking for lots of runs!  For enthusiasts, this big autocross is a chance to sharpen your skills and warm up for the new driving season.

Saturday’s Driver Skills Clinic ("DS") and All-day Autocross will be held at our traditional track, Bremerton Motorsports Park, and on Sunday, we have high-speed Driver Education ("DE," all-day instructed lapping) at The Ridge Motorsports Park in Shelton WA between Bremerton and Olympia.

What is lapping?  Using street rules, with strict passing zones enforced, instructed lapping on a road course puts multiple cars on the course for 20-30 minute sessions.  This is NOT racing; there is no side-by-side braking permitted and passing is only in controlled "Let-by zones."  This is great way to learn and practice car control skills, and it is huge fun.  Drivers who have completed a DS course and are 18+ years old are invited to participate.  Drivers 18+ years old taking DS on Saturday may participate on Sunday.  Anyone who drives on the interstate should attend at least one instructed lapping event to practice skills at highway speeds plus.

The Teen Driver Clinic on Saturday is discounted to $75 for young drivers with either an Instruction Permit or Intermediate License.  Register early: There are only 15 spots available!  This clinic is designed for the beginning driver, teaching valuable skills such as emergency braking, collision avoidance and car control using the same exercises as the Driver Skills.  A parent, guardian or authorized representative must accompany anyone younger than 18 into the facility.

Parents or guardians of teen drivers are encouraged to attend the Teen Driver Clinic as a participant!  Take the same clinic as your teen; you’ll be surprised how much you can learn together!

Adult drivers 18+ may choose from the following event options:

  • Two-day Driver Skills Clinic ("DS") and DS Autocross on Saturday and Instructed Lapping on Sunday, $355.
  • Two-day All-day Autocross on Saturday and Lapping Day on Sunday, $340.
  • One-day Saturday-only Driver Skills Clinic and DS Autocross, $110.
  • One-day Saturday All-day Autocross, $85*.
  • One-day Sunday Lapping Day, $275.

*Drivers under 18 may sign-up for All-day Autocross depending on their DS experience.

Registration pricing includes lunch for each day you participate. Guest lunches are available for $15.

Saturday-only participants are welcome to come back to spectate on Sunday.  See us put the learned skills into action and talk with the new enthusiasts you've met. It is okay to bring friends with you too. You may be able to arrange rides with designated instructors on Sunday to experience first-hand what a lapping day is all about.

To mark the 10th Anniversary of MAMDS, Audi Club Northwest invites participates to a banquet at the Shelton Civic Center (525 W Cota, Shelton, WA) starting at 6:30pm as part of their registration.  Additional Guest banquet tickets can be purchased for $20.

ACNW will organize a Track Tour at the RMP on Sunday at 11:30 am. Family and friends are invited to drive the Ridge at low speed and experience the elevation changes and blind turns at this very exciting track. Any licenced driver can participate. Passengers of any age are also welcome.

ACNA membership is required for all Sunday lapping participants at this event.  Drivers who are not yet members, or who need to renew an existing membership, may handle that using the Audi Club North America website <http://www.audiclubna.org/membership>.

We look forward to a great weekend of learning and fun.  Please email Event Masters, Doug Cerretti < cerr5000@yahoo.com> and Kent Burlingame <kentaburlingame@outlook.com> with any questions.
