About this event
Audi Club Northwest is excited to sponsor the Maryhill Loops Road Tour and Wine Tasting weekend on September 12-14, 2008.
The Maryhill Loops Road, owned by the Maryhill Museum of Art, was the first macadam asphalt paved road in the Pacific Northwest. In 3.6 miles the road ascends 850 feet via a series of 25 curves, 8 of which are hairpins. Generally the road is open to pedestrians and bicyclists only, but on Saturday, September 13th, Audi Club Northwest has private use of this road for a tour.
We have planned a whole weekend of driving and social events around this tour.
On Friday September 12th those in the Seattle area who are interested can meet up and caravan over to Goldendale, WA together. The Seattle caravan will leave late Friday morning and our route offers some beautiful scenery as well as some fun on curvy roads. People from other areas such as Portland also have the opportunity to meet up and caravan over. If you would like to caravan over with one of these groups please indicate so on the registration page. We will all meet up on Friday evening in the Goldendale, WA and The Dalles, OR area. Everyone is on their own for dinner on Friday night.
On Saturday September 13th, we will tour the Maryhill Loops Road during the day beginning with a driver's meeting at 8:30. In order to make this event enjoyable for everyone, the number of drivers on the Maryhill Loops Road is limited to 40 so sign up early! We will waitlist latecomers to the event to fill in if we have any cancellations. On Saturday afternoon any drivers who are tired, or any friends and family who are tired of watching the drivers, can head down the road to the Maryhill Winery for a wine tasting from 3:00-6:00. If you are interested in joining the group for dinner on Saturday night please indicate so on the registration page.
On Sunday September 14th, anyone who is interested can take a group tour of the Maryhill Musuem of Art. The tour begins at 10:00 am. After the tour everyone is welcome to visit other attractions in the area, such as the Stonehenge replica, before heading for home.
The fees for these activities are: $50 for the Maryhill Loops Road Tour (this includes lunch for you and your guests on Saturday); $5 for the wine tasting; $6 for the museum group tour. Each person who wants to drive on the Maryhill Loops Road on Saturday must complete their own registration. If you have family or friends that will be attending with you but will not be driving, you may purchase wine tasting or museum tour tickets for them in addition to your own. You may sign up for one, two or all three activities.
Audi Club North America (ACNA)/Audi Club Northwest (ACNW) membership is not required to participate in this event.
Event requirements
Everyone must sign the Waiver when coming into the Maryhill Loops Road pit area. This requirement includes drivers, instructors, and guests; it makes you part of the club's insurance coverage. Parents must also sign a Teen Waiver on behalf of teens. No exceptions.
Everyone driving on Maryhill Loops Road is required to have a fire extinguisher in their car. In the event that a car goes off the road, you must have immediate access to a fire extinguisher to handle a brush fire. Fire extinguishers must be ABC rated and fully charged. Please let us know if you can bring one, or ACNW will provide the fire extinguisher, but it will be up to you to secure it in your car. There are a few options that we have come up with for securing your fire extinguisher in your car. If you have a cargo net you can secure your fire extinguisher under the cargo net in your trunk. If you don't have a cargo net, you can lay the fire extinguisher on your back seat, fasten the seat belt, and secure your fire extinguisher to the lap belt with a velcro strap or bungee cord. ACNW will have some bungee cords on hand for those that need to do this.
Cancellation by a pre-enrolled driver received before the registration closing date of 9/9 entitles the driver to a 95.5% refund (100% less payment system fees).
Cancellations received on or after the registration closing date of 9/9 will be charged a cancellation fee of $25.
No refunds will be issued due to halting an event for any reason - rain, incident, etc.
If you must cancel, please do it early so that we may allow another participant into your space. Any refunds due under this policy will be issued as soon as practical after the event.
Payment in full must be made by a pre-enrolled driver before registration closes on 9/9, otherwise your registration will be cancelled to allow another participant into that space.
Please contact the Event Master, Carrie Stewart, at stewart.carrie@comcast.net prior to the event with any questions about the event.
Please contact our Registrar, John Ewald, at ewaldc@comcast.net with any questions about the registration itself.
