About this event
Drivers Skills Event - PCA - Inland North West Region
Spokane County Fairgrounds - Sat, May 11, 2019
Driver Skills Overview
Driver Skills is a one day clinic on the fundamentals of performance driving hosted by the Inland Northwest Region of the Porsche Club of America. Appropriate for novices and experienced drivers alike, Driver Skills will make you a safer, more competent driver on the street. Working one-on-one with our Instructors, students rotate in small groups through the following educational segments:
- Classroom
- Slalom
- Wet Skidpad
- Threshold Braking and Accident Avoidance
- Figure-8
- Autocross
None of the segments involve timing or competition. The student works one-on-one with their instructor at a pace appropriate for your experience and comfort level. Together, the segments improve the students ability to look ahead, precisely place the vehicle, control weight transfer, steer with the throttle and brake effectively. At the end of the day students are encouraged to apply the day’s lessons to a simplified Autocross.
The Driver Skills participation fee is $100 including a box lunch and water. Helmets are not required for this relatively low speed 10 acre venue. Limited helmets for rent for $25 are available at the venue on a first come basis. Registration is encouraged through motorsportREG.com. It is possible to register by mail and pay by check using the INWR website (http://inwr.pca.org/driversed.html)

Caution
The venue for this event is a large, 10 acre parking lot, located south of the Spokane County Fairgrounds. The asphalt surface of the lot is old and has cracks with grass stalks sticking through; this can be seen in the photos. The segments used in the Skills event are planned to avoid as much of the cracking as possible but complete avoidance is impossible. Pieces of loose asphalt and small rocks get loosely trapped in the cracks and the motion of vehicles across them sometimes breaks the stones loose which in turn may impact the lower surfaces over your vehicle. Clear bra or blue painters tape is effective as a deterrent to the “pings” left by the rocks. The latter can be easily removed promptly after the event.
Event requirements
Driver Skills Requirements:
- Car club membership: No car club membership is required for Driver Skills - all are welcome. However, if an event is full and running a waitlist, preference is given to PCA members if spots become available.
- Porsche ownership: You do not need to own a Porsche to participate, nor do you need to bring a Porsche to the event. All makes and models are welcome, and most Driver Skills events include a variety of different cars.
- Insurance: You are responsible for your own insurance. Please check with your insurance carrier before registering if you are unsure of your coverage at Driver Skills. Note that Driver Skills is an educational car control clinic, not a high speed driver education or lapping event.
- Helmets: Helmets are optional for this low speed event. A limited number of rental helmets for those that choose to wear one are available for $25.
- Vehicle safety inspection: Instructors will perform a basic safety inspection on-site at the event. No professional technical inspection is required prior to the event. The most common failure items are under inflated tires, and unsecured objects in the passenger compartment or trunk.
- Registering for others or for groups: Each participant must be registered for the event under his/her own name and pay the participation fee, even if sharing a car. MotorsportReg.com now supports registering additional family members after registering yourself - follow the directions to "Register Someone Else" on the next page. Up to two participants may share a car, but again - we must have a registration record and payment for each individual.
- Additional information: See our club website at http://inwr.pca.org/
