Historic Hanover County Tour
Shenandoah Region PCA
Saturday, February 22, 2014
Registration Closes: Wednesday, February 19, 2014 at 11:59 PM EST
Tired of being cooped up inside this winter? Join us for a fun day of options that will get you out of the house and into your Porsche (or “other” car). New Social Events Chair June West and Vice President Greg Glassner have a variety of activities planned in and around historic Hanover County that will help you kick the winter blues.
We’ll start with a scenic drive that will begin just off of I-64 at the Oilville Exit 167 and travel the pastoral winding roads of Hanover County up to Ashland, a former mineral springs resort. We’ll stop for a tour of the Ashland Museum where Greg, a museum board member and docent, will give us a tour and talk about the importance of Ashland as a railroad and resort town in the mid 1800’s and early 1900’s.
Afterward, we’ll take a short drive to Hanover Tavern for lunch. The fee for lunch is $12 per person and will include an entrée, potato salad, French Fries, coffee or tea, taxes, and gratuity. (Vegetarian and vegan options will be available.) Lunch for children 10 years old and under is $7. Desserts can be purchased for an additional charge.
To top off our afternoon, we’ll head across the street for a tour of the Hanover Courthouse and Old Stone Jail. On your way home, feel free to stop by downtown Ashland for a self-guided walking tour of the historic town, which includes a number of beautifully restored and maintained homes and businesses.
Join us for the whole event or the parts that suit your schedule.
