Heimatfest 2016 (Factory Tour, Track, & Concour)

Barber Motorsports Park

About this event

MBUSI Factory Tour,  Concour,  &  Performance Driving at Barber

This event is a bit different each year.

For this year’s Heimatfest we will combine a visit to the Mercedes-Benz US International Factory on Friday, 19 Aug with a two-day Performance Driving Event on the beautiful and challenging 2.38-mile Barber Motorsports Park track organized by Tracks Unlimited on 20-21 Aug.

We will have our own MBCA area of the paddock where we will also stage a MBCA concours on Saturday.  We will arrange for some highway speed touring laps of the track for those that are not in the High Performance Driving skills course with Tracks Unlimited.

Any Mercedes-Benz is competent to drive the Barber track at whatever speed you are comfortable with.  You will have an experienced instructor at your side to help you learn these skills and to appreciate the engineering that contributed to your Mercedes-Benz

We will also make Friday evening memorable at Birmingham’s exclusive “The Club” with excellent food and spectacular views over the city 600ft (200m) below.  Cost is $50 for meal.

Heimatfest registration is $25 which includes the Mercedes-Benz Factory tours, admission to the Barber track, and the concours.

For Performance Driving you will need to register with Tracks Unlimited also at www.motorsportreg.com.   Their rates are a reasonable $300 for one day or $500 for both days.  Be sure to note in the comments that you are with MBCA.

You will need a Snell (Sa) 2005 or later helmet.  If you wish to rent a helmet, they are available at racesuitrentals.com

We have arranged a special rate of $89/ night at the Birmingham Hilton Perimeter South Hotel (205-967-2700).  This is accessible from US 280 just south of its intersection with I-459.  Again, you must tell them you are with the Mercedes -Benz Club America to get this rate.

The factory tours begin at 8:15 am Friday.  The factory is about 40 minutes southwest of the hotel. The Barber track is 17 minutes northeast.  The drive is all interstate to each.

Many members enjoy shopping in the new Brand Immersion Center which was re-built in the last two years.  We will be visiting the C-class production lines.  If you haven’t visited in the last 18 months, you may have not seen this.
