Green Valley/Cordelia to Calistoga (Davis Estates)

Back road enthusiasts' FunRun

About this event

FUNRUN-OF-THE-MONTH ANNOUNCEMENT: October 24th

Can you believe it? Winery destinations are still the big draw for GGR FunRuns this year, so…. we’ve set up one more Drive to Wine Country, hoping this will finally slack your thirst [got it?] But this is it; no more of these juicy destinations until ’16, so if you’ve been holding off…don’t.

We’ll depart from Green Valley/Cordelia, Saturday 10/24, heading up scenic Wooden Valley Rd, then drive on the shore of Lake Barryessa, before returning to the Napa Valley, and going north at Saint Helena on the Silverado Trail to end near Calistoga. At the Davis Estates Winery, owned by a fellow P-car guy, we’ll be greeted with a glass of wine, and he’ll be showing us around his spread. Then we’ll enjoy a BBQ lunch of tri-tip, or chicken or Portabella mushrooms, plus other wine tastings [details to follow…]. “Souvenir” bottles may be purchased at 15% discount. Sounds fun…! Afterward, you can go back to explore the towns of Calistoga, Saint Helena and Yountville at your leisure, then on down the Silverado Trail to Napa and home.

From Mid-peninsula/Palo Alto, it’s an hour and 15 min drive to our starting point [address to follow]… So we’ll grid-up at 9:30 for signing waivers and drivers’ briefing, departing at 10 o’clock for the 2 hour FunRun . After signing waivers we’ll divide cars into appropriate groups. Drivers self-select one of 3 run groups most appropriate to their own driving style: Enthusiast, Sporting and Touring. This is an energetic drive and we want members to be comfortable in their chosen group and above all, safe. So, evaluate your driving style realistically and choose a group in which you will be at ease.

Because this FunRun takes place south of the recent Valley Fire, we think it reasonable that any revenue over and above our costs will be contributed to the Red Cross Valley Fire fund, to give an assist to people displaced from their homes. We think you’ll agree this is appropriate.

Now here are several details to note:

1/ Due to high demand for these FunRuns, this drive is open to Golden Gate Region drivers only; Porsche cars & SUVs only. Thanks for understanding.
2/ You need to
open an account on MotorsportsReg.com and sign-up both driver and passenger. The GGR FunRun entry fee of $10 per car is non-refundable.
3/ If driver and/or passenger [only if a PCA Associate Member] has never received a GGR
name badge, check the appropriate box when registering.
4/
Picnic Lunch is $30 per person including Tax & Tip [non-refundable]. If drivers are thinking about bringing a passenger, be sure you buy a lunch for them when you register, as there will be no extra lunches available on site.
5/
More logistical details to come, including route map, 5 days before D-Day. For questions, email  < ggr.touring@gmail.com >
6/

Cheers, Michael Griffin   GGR Motoring/Social Director
