About this event
GPX Tour to Tehachapi Loop
The Tehachapi Loop tour has several interesting features besides our destination. Our route will take us from La Canada over the San Gabriel Mountains on the Angeles Forest Highway. It has recently been re-paved and re-marked, and is a wonderful way to enjoy the "twisties".
A short, uncrowded Interstate hop brings us to Rosamond, where we turn west to have a passing look at Willow Springs Raceway, the first dedicated road racing track in the USA.
Then we set off into the Tehachapi Mountains for a short run to the town of Tehachapi.
We will stop there for lunch at Kohnen's Country Bakery. While the place is very crowded on weekends, we will have ordered our lunches in advance, and need only to pick them up.
(Please see link for Kohnen's menu & instructions on the confirmation page, after signing up for the Tour.)
Next door is the Depot Park, a good spot to relax with our lunch. The old railway depot, now a museum, is right there, and is well worth the visit. We'll try to have a special tour.
After lunch, we'll drive about 20 minutes to the area of the "Loop". Parking is limited along the road, but we'll spread out. With a bit of luck, we'll be able to see a freight train passing over itself on the "Loop". Keep your cameras ready!
The return is on your own. Some will go back the way we came, others will use Highway 58 to leave the area. Some may choose to remain overnight in Tehachapi, which has several good motels.
This is a “Rain or Shine” event.
