FSR Vineyard Visit/Golf Tourney

Woodland Vineyard/Westham Golf Club

About this event

Please join us for a Saturday of fun, camaraderie and perhaps some friendly competition as we enjoy a fun run to the Woodland Vineyard and Westham Golf Club in the Richmond area on 9 October.  We’ll meet at Watkins Center/West Chester Commons in Midlothian for the fun run and end up at the vineyards.  Those playing golf will cut out from there and proceed to the links.

Registration is $35 per person for both the Vineyard and Golf event.  The vineyard option includes wine tasting, a souvenir glass and lunch.  The Golf option gets you 9 holes and lunch.  If you’d like to go for another 9 holes, they’ll collect an additional $10 at the course.

Woodland Vineyard is a small family-owned and operated vineyard and farm winery located in Midlothian, VA near the Swift Creek Reservoir.  The vineyards currently produce approximately 2 tons of estate-grown grapes and 200 cases of wine annually, qualifying as the state's smallest farm winery. The vineyard is situated on a small, half acre plot on the family property, which also houses a small winery, an indoor tasting room, several picnic tables and an outdoor patio for guests.  The first vines at Woodland Vineyard were planted in 1997 by owners Melissa and Eric. Woodland Vineyard officially opened its doors (and its bottles) for business in December 2004 with its first annual Holiday Open House.  In the summer of 2008, Woodland Vineyard expanded its vineyard to Amelia, where 1,000 additional vines were planted on a newly-acquired lot. The 2007 Merlot was awarded the silver medal at the Virginia State Fair.  The 2008 Viognier and 2009 White Merlot were awarded the bronze medals at the 2009 Wines of the South competition.  For more information on Woodland Vineyard, please visit http://www.woodlandvineyard.com/index.htm.

Westham Golf Clubserves as the centerpiece of Magnolia Green, a resort-style community with ancillary commercial and retail uses.  Westham features a Nicklaus design with wide-open Bermuda-grass fairways, undulating terrain and elevation changes providing challenges for golfers of all skill levels. Wildlife is abundant and streams have been fully-restored and lined with native shrubs and grasses to create the natural and environmentally-friendly course.  Prospective players tackling the course for the first time are encouraged to bring a selection of sand wedges.  The greens are challenging and the approach to each one is surrounded by sand.  Boxed lunches will be provided at the course.  For more information on Westham Golf Club, go to  http://www.westhamgolfclub.com/index.php
