FAST Classic - Nov 19

Tampa Greyhound Track (South Lot)

About this event

We'll be back at the Dog Track this month to sample the unique challenges that it offers. We've finally figured how to effectively use this site, and it's a great change of pace from the airstrip. We're really looking forward to it! The lot we're using is SOUTH OF BIRD STREET, at approximately 701 E Bird St.

FAST CLASSIC events are smaller and more casual events, which allows drivers to enjoy more runs (usually around 8, probably less due to the longer course) without any pressure. You'll get more seat time because we won't spend time doing a novice-level driver's meeting or a novice walk. Otherwise, it will be the same great FAST experience, including the World Famous FAST Lunch, and we'll be done by 2-3pm! These events are not included for points in the FAST Season Championship.

IMPORTANT - EXHAUST NOISE: We have a Exhaust Noise Limit, and this site is VERY close (650 feet!) to homes and we've already had noise complaints. With that in mind, if your car is loud, you may want to modify it to be quieter or bring a different car for this event. If you think your car might be loud, IT PROBABLY IS, and we will likely agree that it is loud. If WE think it's loud when you get on course, we'll have no choice but to end your first run and not allow your car on course for this event. We won't be offering refunds for this, so be honest with yourself!

IMPORTANT: Part of what makes these events work is the fact that we limit them to experienced autocrossers. First timers and those with less than 4 autocross events (with any club) will not be permitted. There will be no instructors, no novice walk, just good old-fashioned autocross with folks who know how to autocross.

ENTRY REQUIREMENT: All entrants must have at least 5 events of prior autocross experience. --OR-- Must have a qualified "buddy". See below. (If you attended the FAST Novice School, you are exempt from this requirement)

BUDDY SYSTEM: For Classic events, we will allow less experienced autocrossers, even first-timers, if they have a qualified FAST regular sponsor them. That's right, we're using the "buddy system". As the experienced buddy, you can only sponsor ONE driver, and you are responsible for them throughout the day. You will be paired with them in the same run group (they don't have to drive your car, but they can) so that you can ride with them and they can ride with you. And you may be paired with them on a work assignment. We have no formal novice training at a Classic event, so the responsibility falls to you to do a good course walk with them and show them the ropes. We hope a few people can have some fun with it!

Driver Registration - $49.50

Site-Specific Info

  • Tampa Greyhound Track is an "open" site, meaning that the event can be watched by the general public.
  • Pre-Registration is required for drivers! No walk-up registrations will be accepted.
  • We cannot add drivers after online registration is closed.
  • To enter the course and grid area, guests must be at least 16 years old and must sign the insurance waiver. Minors must have a parent present to sign a waiver.
  • Guests are not required to pre-register at this site unless they wish to partake of the FAST lunch.
  • Beverages and lunch are only provided for registered drivers and registered guests.

Driver, Guest and Passenger Requirements

  • No children (under 16) and no pets allowed on site. Sorry, our events are inherently dangerous and are not insured as "spectator events".
  • Drivers under age 18 must be fully licensed (no permits) and have a parent or guardian to sign the insurance waiver allowing them to participate.
  • All participants must show their valid driver's license and sign an insurance liability waiver at check-in. No exceptions! This waiver effectively says that you are responsible for damage to your own vehicle, property and person. Autocross is among the safest motorsports you'll find, and FAST does everything possible to ensure a safe event. You compete/attend/participate at your own risk. But, you really should read that waiver and fully understand it before you sign it!
  • Passengers must meet the same license requirements as drivers and are only permitted in a car if the driver or passenger qualifies as an instructor.
  • Drivers and passengers must wear a DOT approved helmet. We have loaner helmets available at no charge.
  • Shorts and T-shirt or other comfortable attire suitable for the weather are appropriate.
  • Closed toed shoes are required!

Safety, Vehicle Requirements & Classing

  • Safety is the most important aspect of what we do. Please take a moment to read our Safety Rules.
  • Each competition vehicle must pass a safety inspection. You can pre-check your car against our Safety Inspection Checklist.
  • To classify your car and familiarize yourself with the FAST preparation rules, begin with our Classing Overview page.

Work Assignments

  • Each registered driver must work at least one session. (volunteers are welcome throughout the day!)
  • Special work assignments are first-come, first served and based on experience and our needs. Your requested assignment is not guaranteed. Most entrants will be required to work course.
  • If you have physical limitations, be sure to request a work assignment that is within your abilities AND state your limitations in your profile.
  • NOTE: Certain information that does not often change is stored in your user account profile so that you don't have to enter it each time you register. This includes work assignment preferences and disability info. You can view or edit that information at any time by going to My Account > Edit My Information > Edit Clubs > Edit (on the FAST organization).
