Engage your fall-wheel drive!!!

RMR-PCA is excited to hold an off-road tour for 2021!

Do you like Colorado railroad history or want to learn a little more about it?

Our tour takes us over Boreas Pass. Boreas Pass runs between Como CO. and Breckenridge CO and reaches an altitude of 11,482 feet. The pass was initially created by the Denver South Park & Pacific (DSP&P) railroad company and was completed between 1881 and 1884 to serve the lucrative Leadville market. At the top of the pass there are a few buildings, an old railroad car and several informational signs explaining the history of Boreas Pass.

Since Boreas Pass is out near the Fairplay and the Breckenridge areas, we will need to get an early start to make our lunch destination by noon. You will need to arrive gassed up and bathroom breaks done by 7am to check in. Mandatory driver’s meeting at 7:15am. Seatbelts on and rolling out at 7:30am.

Being an old railroad route means that the pass itself is an easy drive and entire pass is gravel however, many areas of the pass do not have guard rails and it can be narrow in places. So, we will be going slow over the pass.

The road is relatively smooth but there are spots where there are rocks embedded in the road so you will want to pay close attention and go slow.

Due the fact the pass can be narrow in places and as you approach Breckenridge the traffic tends to increase; we need to limit this tour to 20 vehicles running in two run groups of 10, each about 20 minutes apart. Vehicles with low profile tires want to be extra, extra careful since there are numerous rocks on the road. Expect potholes and embedded rock on the roadway.

This trip is in early October and that means the weather can change quickly. It is highly recommended that you have all-season or better tires on your vehicle for this trip. I have seen passenger cars on Boreas Pass, but I would not recommend it. RMR-PCA is only allowing SUVs, Jeep’s, trucks with ground clearance on this tour.

We will end our off-road tour at Red Mountain Grill in Dillon Colorado at about noon. Please indicate when you sign up if you will be eating at the Red Mountain Grill, so we have a good head count to give to the restaurant. All food and drink will be your responsibility. The restaurant will do separate checks and you can order off their normal menu.

Let’s have a great tour and see you on the 2nd of October.

DRIVING DETAILS WILL BE EMAILED TO YOU  PRIOR TO THE EVENT!  The route will not be shared until after the tour.

**Please note that alternate trail may be used if any closures may happen.**

Important Details: All registrants that will be driving must show their current/valid driver’s license.

The Speed Waiver link will be sent to you after your registration is confirmed.
