PDX:

Performance Driving Experience, also known as "track days" are a non-competitive opportunity to bring your street driven car to a race track and exercise or learn high performance driving skill.  The speeds are high and so is the excitement!  PDX provides three 20 minute sessions for drivers who simply want to improve their skills and enjoy driving their car with no speed limits. True to the “run what ya brung” adage, all it takes to be a part is your street car, a valid license and a helmet.  Instructors will be available for novice drivers or experienced drivers looking to improve.

Curious?  Car not ready to take to the track?  Just want to check it out?  Or do you just like hanging out at the track around great people and fast cars?  We're always in need of extra help!  Register as a volunteer and come check out what SCCA and Iowa Speedway are all about.  You'll be in the thick of the action directing cars onto the course, monitoring state of the art timing systems, or in a flagging station all while in radio contact with Race Control. 

Lunch will be provided for all volunteers and drivers!

Held under the SCCA 2017 Time Trials and PDX rules and guidelines except where modified by these Supplemental regulations.

 

Time Trials Rules may be found on SCCA Website at2017Club time trials Rules.  Drivers are responsible for reading the rules.

General Information

 

  1. Pre-registration is available via www.motorsportsreg.com – Des Moines Valley Region.  All entries are requested to pre-register by the close of online registration at 10:00pm Oct 4th 2017 to guarantee your spot.

  2. All drivers must check in with Registration in the credentials building upon arrival at the track.

  3. There will be a MANDATORY driver’s meeting in the garage area for all participants.  Instructors will be assigned at this meeting.

  4. On-Site Preferred payment method is cash.  Checks will be accepted, but a $30 charge will be assessed for all insufficient funds checks.  Onsite registration is available until 9:30 am in the credentials building and will be only as space allows.

  5. The Schedule outlines the session times and order for the overall event.  On-track sessions will run consecutively. PA announcements will be made calling each group to the grid, but be aware of where your group falls in the order of sessions.

Cancellation

 

  1. The event takes place rain or shine.

  2. If there is excessive standing water on the track surface and the safety steward has deemed the track unsafe,     you will be entitled to a full refund of your fees up to the 11:00am start time.

  3. If there is inclement weather that renders the area unsafe you will be entitled to a refund up to the 2:00pm start time.

  4. If you pre-register and prepay and cancel by 10:00pm  Oct 4th, you will be entitled to a full refund.

  5. If you pre-register and prepay and cancel after registration is closed and before the day of the event you will receive 50% of your fees back.

  6. If you preregister and prepay and cancel on the day of the event you forfeit your fees.

 

Driver Eligibility

  1. All PDX / CTT drivers/entrants must be a SCCA member.  Weekend memberships are available at registration.  Entrants must be at least 18 years old and hold a valid driver’s license from their state of residence.  Entrants must show proof of these requirements at registration.  

  2. No individual under the age of 18 shall be allowed in any restricted area of the Premises (which shall include the track surface, run-off areas, and any other restricted-access areas without (1) a signed Parental Consent, Release and Waiver of Liability, Assumption of Risk, and Indemnity Agreement and (2) a signed Minor’s Assumption of Risk Acknowledgement, each duly executed by the minor’s parent or legal guardian and filed with the SCCA National office in Topeka KS. These documents must be signed in the presence of a notary and the minor must have a First Gear or Regular membership for the National Office to issue the Minor Photo ID.  This process MUST be completed prior to arrival at the event.

      

Registration / Credentials

  1. Participants will be required to sign the track’s waiver upon entry to the facility.  This waiver is in addition to, not in lieu of, SCCA’s waiver requirements.

  2. Entrants must present their Participation Logbook or competition licence at the time of on-site registration.  Logbooks will be returned with any notations at the end of the event.  Logbooks will be available at the event for first time participants.  Drivers/entrants who hold a current Time Trials Competition License or higher are not required to present TT Participation logbooks, so long as their SCCA membership and License are current.

  3. Once registered, each driver will be given a wristband or similar credential for PDX/CTT participation.  This credential must be presented on the grid in order for the driver to be allowed on course.

 

 

General Rules

  1. All vehicles must go through technical inspection prior to entering the course.

  2. Tech inspection will take place in the garage area before the drivers meeting, please arrive with enough time to have your car and equipment approved.  GATES OPEN AT 07:00 am!!!

  3. Two (2) digit car numbers will be required for PDX/CTT entries. Car numbers must be displayed on each side of the vehicle in a contrasting color. Minimum of 8” is required for visibility while on the track.

  4. All novice drivers are required to have a passenger seat with a 3 point safety belt. Passenger safety restraint system is required to match driver’s seat restraint system or higher for cars requiring instruction

  5. Cars running alcohol fuels > 10% are required to have a sticker with 3” lettering or larger indicating such on both sides of the car.

 

Gear / Safety Equipment

  1. While on course, all PDX/CTT drivers must wear long sleeves and pants (100% cotton materials recommended), shoes which fully cover the foot at least to the ankle (additional requirements may apply for certain classes – see the Time Trials Rules).

  2. Helmets meeting the requirements of Time Trials Rules are required while on course.  Helmets must be presented at Event Tech and receive a validation sticker. Helmets must have a SNELL M2010, M2015, SA2010, SA2015 rating to be approved for a sticker, NO MOTOCROSS HELMETS! There will be a VERY limited amount of loaner helmets available.  Drivers presenting to Grid without the appropriate sticker on their helmet will not be allowed to enter the course.

 

Driving Rules

  1. The driver & passenger side front windows shall be down on all cars when on course.

  2. PDX grid is first come first on track, no need to line up by numbers. CTT sessions will be gridded based on lap time from the previous session.

  3. Intermediate PDX and CTT run groups will allow passing anywhere on course with a “point-by” from the driver being overtaken.  

  4. The hot pits will be open during PDX sessions. There is NO refueling in the hot pits at any time!

  5. Any car which leaves the racing surface (i.e. spins off or drives off) must report immediately to the pit lane for consultation with the PDX Chief Instructor or Chief Steward. Failure to do so will result in a black flag.

Passing Rules

  1. Drivers shall be in control of their vehicle at all times.

  2. The driver being passed is required to provide a point-by indicating the side for the overtaking driver to pass on.  

  3. Initiating a pass without a point-by is prohibited.  

  4. Once initiated, passes must not be contested.  

  5. Both drivers are responsible for giving each other adequate space to complete the pass as safely as possible.  Half a car width between cars is recommended.

  6. Passing in the Intermediate PDX and CTT run groups is allowed anywhere on course.

  7. Passing in the Novice PDX run group is allowed in designated passing zones only AND you must receive a “point by” from the slower driver being passed / overtaken.  Any car violating the no passing zones will be black-flagged and must report to the pit lane for consultation with the PDX/CTT Chief Instructor or PDX/CTT Chief Steward.  Designated passing zones will be marked on course with pylons and a map displaying the zones will be distributed at the mandatory classroom and drivers meeting.

  8. •   Exception:  Clearly disabled cars may be passed (with extreme care) at any location, if there is sufficient room.  The driver of the disabled car should pull his vehicle offline, signal by raised hand and point to side for passing, and exit the track as soon as possible. If unable to continue to the pits, the vehicle should be pulled off the track surface if possible.

 

 

Club Time Trial Supplemental Regulations

Purpose:

DMVR’s Club Time Trials are intended to provide a competitive environment for advanced level drivers. It is an open passing environment with scoring based on the lowest single lap time recorded throughout the day.

Driver Eligibility

Drivers must hold a minimum of an SCCA Time Trials Novice permit and have been approved by a chief driving instructor with approval noted in their participation log book.  Holders of licenses from SCCA or approved sanctioning bodies may also participate.  

 

Approved licenses shall include:

  1. SCCA Time Trials License

  2. SCCA Full Competition

  3. SCCA Full Competition Novice Permit

  4. Time Trials or Competition licenses from approved sanctioning bodies per GCR Appendix C Section 2.8.B.

 

Licenses from organizations that do not issue license cards (e.g. WRL, Chumpcar) may be accepted on a case-by-case basis at the approval of the Chief Instructor.  Holders of these licences are highly encouraged to apply for an SCCA Time Trials or Full Competition License.

Timing and Scoring

  1. All cars shall have a working AMB/MyLaps compatible transponder.  Function of the transponder is the driver’s responsibility.

  2. Times will be made available via computer printout and/or the Race Monitor app available for Android or iOS devices.

Cars: Eligibility and Markings

  1. Vehicle eligibility shall be per the SCCA Time Trials rules.

  2. Numbers shall be displayed on the driver and passenger sides of the vehicle.  Numbers shall be a minimum of 8” tall on a contrasting background.

  3. Class letters shall be displayed on the driver and passenger sides of the vehicle.  Class letters shall be a minimum of 4” tall on a contrasting background.

  4. Minimum weight for the vehicle based on it’s class shall be displayed on the driver side of the vehicle.  (see below)

 

Competition Classes

Classing for Club Trials shall be based on the weight to power ratio of the car and driver expressed in pounds per horsepower.  Cars competing in Club Trials shall be weighed at the at the end of the competition session.  Horsepower for the purposes of classing shall be the stock factory rated specification.

A car’s class shall be set based on the actual weight of the car and driver at the beginning of the event and modified per the rules below.  The car’s minimum weight will then be the lowest lb/hp for its class multiplied by the stock factory rated horsepower.  E.g. a C3 car with 200 hp shall have a minimum weight of 15.0 lb/hp * 200 hp = 3000 lbs.  

 

Classes:

  • C4 = greater than 18.0 lb/hp

  • C3 = greater than 15.0 to 18.0

  • C2 = 12.7 to 15.0

  • C1 = less than 12.7

 

Allowed Modifications

  1. Intake up to the throttle body or carburettor is open

  2. Exhaust is open

  3. Air/Fuel ratios and ignition timing may be tuned via mechanical or electronic means

  4. Suspension

    1. Springs, dampers, bushings, and sway bars may be modified or replaced.  

    2. Adjustable dampers are allowed.

    3. Additional bracing (e.g. strut tower bars) is allowed.

  5. Brakes

    1. Any brake pad material may be used

    2. Big brake kits are allowed

    3. Brake discs may be slotted or drilled.  Non-ferrous discs are allowed only if offered by the vehicle manufacturer

    4. Braided/stainless brake lines are allowed

  6. Wheel and tire size are open

  7. Tires shall have a treadwear rating of 200 or greater.  Those tires with tread wear ratings less than 200 shall apply the following modifiers to the weight to power ratio:

    1. 100 to less than 200 = -0.3

    2. Less than 100 = -0.6

    3. Full race slick = -0.9

  8. The following modifications shall result in adjustments to the weight to power ratio used for classis:

    1. Internal engine modifications affecting compression ratio, bore over .060”, or displacement = -0.6

    2. Increased turbo boost = -0.8
