Club Racing Experience & Alternative Drivers School (closed wheel)
August 10, 2014
As part of our annual fundraising weekend, a new Club Race event, Club Racing Experience, PLUS an Alternative Drivers School (ADS), closed wheel, will run concurrently on Sunday. NER’s Club Racing Experience (CRE) is designed to be a lower risk, less aggressive form of wheel to wheel racing. Because we expect most participants will be new to wheel to wheel racing there will be mandatory classroom sessions where you will learn the rules, racecraft and what to expect during the day. The event will have a chief instructor and a separate chief steward who will work with you to set expectations and make this a fun experience. will be a low risk “racing experience” event that provides an instructional environment to experience and learn about wheel- to-wheel racing in an easy to access format.
For those qualified, Alternative Drivers School credit can be earned during the CRE. Drivers who plan to use this event as an ADS should contact Dick Patullo (Patullo@verizon.net); an instructor will be assigned to each ADS participant for counseling and instruction.
Participation in the CRE is open to any SCCA regular or weekend member (Weekend memberships can be purchased at Registration for $15, and can be used toward a full membership). No license or doctor’s physical is required. Members must possess and are responsible for recording participation in a SCCA Racing Experience Participation Log. Logs will be issued by SCCA Stewards or Registrars at the event. Participants must certify they have no known medical conditions that would cause them or others undue risk.
People who may want to race in CRE include:
- Drivers that compete in other sanctioning body events, but have not tried SCCA
- Vintage drivers
- Non-SCCA licensed drivers that want to compete one or two times a year in a more controlled environment
- Current Solo, PDX and Club Trials drivers looking for the next step
- Novice drivers trying to gain more track time
- Opportunity for current drivers to reward support and crew members
- Experienced drivers trying a new car or considering a purchase
The NER CRE event fee is $250 (Early entry, after Aug 6, $280); the event will include multiple classroom sessions and 4 sessions on track.
