AZ PCA Driver Education Track Event

Arizona Motorsports Park

About this event

Please join us at Arizona Motorsports Park (AMP) for the second time of the 2019/2020 season. For this event, we will run the track clockwise. Plan on a full day of fun- gates open at 7:00 AM with the first car out on track at 9:00 AM.  Five 20-minute sessions for each run group will be scheduled.

There will be four different "run groups" which will be separated by experience/skill level: Novice, Intermediate, Advanced, and Expert/Instructor.  There is a run group for everyone- so don't hesitate to sign up if you have little to no experience on track.  Spectators are also welcome.

If this will be your first time attending a track day with AZ PCA, you will be provided an instructor to ride along with you as well as classroom instruction to make the most of your day.  Even if it is not your first time or if you have never driven at AMP before, AZ PCA can accommodate (and encourages) an instructor ride-along to hone your driving skills.

To ensure everyone registered has a good time at the track, the amount of cars in each run group is limited.  Sign up early to avoid being waitlisted!

If you are not a PCA member, please contact Dan Bouet at drivereducation@az.pca.org if you would like to attend this event as an invited guest of the Porsche Club.

Please refer to the attached schedule for the day's activities.

Event requirements

Pre-Registration Requirements:

Helmets / Clothing

You must have a Snell rated (SA2010 or SA2015) automotive helmet. Open-faced and closed-face style helmets are permitted, however, motorcycle helmets are not permitted- these usually have the designation "M" preceeding the year i.e. M2010 or M2015.  If you do not own a helmet that meets those requirement, AZ PCA has loaners available at the track.  Please specify that you may need to borrow one during the registration process. Closed toe shoes are required.  Attendees and any guest(s) will be required to sign a liability waiver form at the track entrance.

Driver Check-In Requirements

There will be a mandatory driver's meeting for all drivers participating in the track day.  You must check in at the on-site registration tent prior to the driver's meeting to document that you are present (THIS IS NOT THE SAME AS THE WAIVER YOU SIGN WHEN ENTERING THE TRACK GATE).  When you check in at the registration tent, you will need to present your Driver's License. Check in closes when the driver's meeting starts- if you have not (at minimum) checked in at the registration tent before the meeting starts, you will not be permitted to participate in the event and your registration may be forfeited per the cancellation terms.

Vehicle Tech / Harnesses and HANS Devices

A safety check should be performed on your car prior to the event.  Cars with leaking fluid(s), tires below 3/32" tread, insufficiently torqued lug nuts, brake pads that do not have sufficient pad thickness, a battery that is loose, harnesses improperly fastened, or inoperable brake lights will not be permitted to drive on track. At the morning of the event, a required safety check will be performed to inspect for these things.

You will be assigned a wrist band for your run group and a vehicle tech form when you check in at the registration tent the morning of the event.  You will then need to take your car along with the tech form to the vehicle tech area to have it checked for safety.  It is recommended that you get to the registration tent early to avoid long lines at vehicle tech.

If your vehicle has a multi-point harness system, you are ALSO required to utilize a head and neck restraint system (HANS device). Because the PCA rule of equal restraint applies, if there will be a passenger in your car (such as an instructor) there must be both a harness system and a HANS device available and used by that passenger.

Convertibles must have roll-over protection- either built in from the OEM, or aftermarket. Porsche convertibles from the beginning of the Boxster have adequate built-in roll over protection from the factory. Convertibles should be driven with the top-up. If there is no convertible top, hand restraints must be worn.

Sound Restrictions for AMP:

Arizona Motorsports Park has city sound restrictions of 96dB and in order to run your car at this track, your car must not exceed this sound limit.   Sound testing will be conducted for any cars that have not been previously tested during the morning of the event, immediately following safety tech.  If your car does not meet the sound restrictions during testing, your entry fee will be refunded to you. Do not attempt to "cheat" the sound meter during testing- if you exceed the sound restrictions while on track during a driving session, your current or remaining driving sessions may be subject to immediate termination with no entry fee refund, and an additional fee may be imposed, depending on the severity of the sound violation(s).
