For those of you that haven't experience the thrill of autocross, your decision to join us at Autocross Sunday may just lead to an addiction.  Some who try it never leave. Others move on to different forms competition. But there's one thing that all who come have in common ........we're a family who has taken our driving skills to a level that makes us some of the most proficient drivers in the country.

What is Autocross?
Autocross is a safe, relatively low-speed motorsport where drivers must negotiate a course marked by pylons with their cars. Cars are sent out one at time with about 20 seconds between runs. Top speed in autocross is typically no faster than speeds you would find on public roads, thus most cars only need working seat belts and drivers only need a helmet for safety. Courses are typically laid out in empty parking lots or air strips. Our courses are usually about a mile in length and take between 45 seconds and 90 seconds to negotiate. Courses contain a series of elements such as curves, corners, and slaloms that test the driver’s skill and the car’s agility. Cars are separated into classes based on Sports Car Club of America rules for national classes as well as California Sports Car Club supplemental regulations for local classes. Events are timed and the fastest time in the class wins.  For a closer look, check out this excellent video by Stephen Chiang.

What is Autocross Sunday?
For some, Autocross Sunday is our time to show the world, well at least our friends, just how well we're able to negotiate the course in cars we've prepared for competition. This is for bragging rights, plain and simple. For others, it's a time to learn, both about ourselves and our cars.  It's about becoming a better driver and a better person.  But for all, it's about having fun and making new friends. New for this year, persons aged 12 and older are allowed as passengers. That's right! Your friends and family can now ride along. An SCCA membership is required. Passengers may get a free temporary membership at registration.

No Experience Necessary
While you may have never thought much about improving your driving skills, things you'll learn about your car and yourself may just keep you out of trouble by giving you the tools to negotiate our roads and highways more safely. By participating in an Autocross Sunday, you will become a better driver .......GUARANTEED!

Novices
We at the Cal Club Autocross welcome new participants to the sport. Our autocrosses are work/run events and our organization is not for profit. We're all volunteers. Everyone pitches-in and shares in the work as well as the fun. It is important that you show up to work on time and complete your work assignment. We realize that getting started can be confusing. To help you get acclimated, a Novice Coordinator will be there to answer questions and help familiarize you with the course and procedures. Course walks to help you with learning the course will leave the starting line @8:00am and during the lunch break. At the completion of the course walk, you'll get a briefing covering course safety and operating procedures. Once the event begins, instructors will be available to help you as little or as much as you want. We're a very friendly group, so if you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask any of you're fellow participants. A smile and a courteous attitude will go long way toward making you autocross experience a great one. For more information to help you get started, check out our novice guide here.

What to expect
Combine wonderful Southern California weather and a first class autocross course designed by the Cal Club Autocross team, we’re sure to have a great day of fun and competition. Your hosts for the event are the volunteers who make up Cal Club Autocross, a not for profit club assembled for the sole purpose of organizing world class autocross events in the Cal Club Region of the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA). Organizers are non-paid volunteers. All participants will be required to perform a normal work assignment as your contribution to the event.

Car Numbers and Class Letters Required!

It is the responsibility of each competitor to know and comply with number and class letter requirements. Here are some general rules to follow:

  • Number and class letters should be positioned next to each other.
  • All letters and numbers must be on body panels, not on windows.
  • All numbers and class letters must use the same typeface and the same color, and this color must provide adequate contrast to the background color.
  • Numbers must be a minimum or 8” high.
  • Class letters must be a minimum of 4” high.

Click here for the SCCA National Rules on car identification.

A personalized set of rules compliant magnetic or vinyl numbers and class letters are very inexpensive. A local supplier used by many of our competitors to purchase these is jaycomvinyl.com. These can also be obtained from a number of different sources online.

For those of you not ready to make the commitment to purchase your own number set, you can easily make your own temporary tape-on numbers using ordinary copy paper and a jumbo marker. Use one sheet of standard copy paper positioned vertically for each individual number and one sheet positioned horizontally for your all your class letters. Use masking tape to fasten to the side of the car. These will be large enough to be easily seen and compliant with the rules.

2015 had brought about several nation class changes. The biggest change was in the Street Classes where all tires must now display a 200 or higher tire wear rating. With the exception of Super Stock Racing (SSR), the old Stock Classes have been eliminated. STC has also been eliminated. SCCA now offers three classes for Classic American Muscle (CAM) cars.

CAM-T - Traditional CAM cars 1954-72, 108" wheelbase, 3000 lb minimum
CAM-C - Contemporary CAM cars 1978 and newer, 100" wheelbase, 3000 lb minimum
CAM-S -  Sports CAM cars, two seats, 90" wheelbase 2600 lb minimum

Locally, indexed Street Classes are no longer offered. All Street Class participants will now compete with their national class, ie AS, BS, CS etc.
Prepared and Modified Classes will continue to be indexed.

When registering, the first box is to select you local indexed class (PAX, HST1, HST2, P, M, NOV & TO) or national class.

The second box (labeled PAX) is only used if you picked an indexed class above. Enter your national class designation there.  Otherwise please leave this box blank.

All entrants MUST BE SCCA members. Non-members can purchase an SCCA weekend membership on this site during the checkout process or at the event for $15 BEFORE going to registration. Those purchasing a weekend membership will receive a credit of $15 toward the purchase of a yearly SCCA membership.

NOTE:  If you have a valid SCCA membership but the system indicates it is not valid, be sure your name in this system is exactly as it is on your SCCA card.

Persons aged 12 and older are allowed as passengers. An SCCA membership is required. Passengers may get a free temporary membership at registration.
