Autocross School & Car Control Clinic

Lininger EVOC

About this event

Autocross School and Car Control Clinic
The goal of the Autocross School/Car Control Clinic is to teach students the foundational skills of high-performance driving.  This school is sold as an ALL-DAY event, with the exception of the Car Control Clinic which is morning only. The instructional content of the Car Control Clinic is identical to the Autocross school. The only difference is that the instructors you will see at the Driving School will be your instructors at the Car Control Clinic.

This school is open to all BMW CCA members. Beginners, convertibles and roadsters are welcome. BMW and Porsche SAVs (X5, X3, X6, Cayenne, Macan, etc.) may participate, but must be on street tires. Other trucks, SUVs, and high center of gravity vehicles are not permitted.  Registration will close at 6:00 PM the Wednesday prior to the event, or earlier if the event cap is reached. If the event cap is reached, subsequent registrants will be placed on the wait-list. Wait-listed participants will be notified via email no later than Friday afternoon before the event if they are accepted. If you have questions, send them to axinfo@rmcbmwcca.org and a member of the autocross committee will reply.

Registration Guide

  1. You must register for this school on this site.  Walk-up registrations are not allowed.
  2. Car Control Clinic: Morning class only, with lunch. The class is tailored to students attending the Driving School.
  3. Autocross School: Designed for those that are new or fairly new to Autocross or just want more seat time. There will be morning and afternoon sessions with lunch included.
  4. Registrants that have been autocrossing for at least 3 to 4 years will be grouped together.  The instruction for this group will focus on advanced autocross skills.

NOTE: If you are signing up for the Car Control Clinic but want to drive all day, sign up for "ALL-DAY" and select "yes" when asked whether you are attending the Car Control Clinic.

Important: If you are sharing a car, please send email to axinfo@rmcbmwcca.org and state who you are sharing a car with so we can place you and your codriver in the same group.

Class Specifics

The Beginner Autocross school and car control clinic will start with a 30-minute classroom session to prepare you for the day and answer any questions. After the classroom session is complete, you will be divided into several groups then take runs on several features. These features will consist of several slaloms, a figure-8 skidpad, and a triangle feature. After each group has gone through each feature, there will be a short debrief during lunch. The Car Control students will be instructed by Driving School instructors.

Lunch is included for all participants.  The afternoon session will start promptly after lunch.

Any questions about registration, car classing or the event itself should be directed to axinfo@rmcbmwcca.org

Looking forward to a fun driving season!

Event requirements

Event Preparation Guide

  1. Bring water! Even if it is not hot out, you will dehydrate quickly.
  2. YOU MUST PRESENT A VALID DRIVER'S LICENSE at check-in. Learner's permits and expired drivers licenses are not valid. You will not be allowed to participate without a valid driver's license.
  3. If you have your own helmet, make sure that it is compliant with the rules listed in the "Helmets" section below.  Rental helmets are also available for $10/day.
  4. Plan to show up early and check in at the club tent as soon as you arrive.
  5. After you check in, remove all loose items from inside your vehicle and trunk. The driver's floor mat needs to be removed (even if attached to carpet). All other floor mats can remain in the car.
  6. Move your car to the driver staging area (see information obtained at checkin) as soon as possible.  Open your hood and trunk to indicate to the tech inspection team that your vehicle is ready to be inspected, and place your helmet on the passenger seat.  If your car passed tech, the inspectors will close the hood and trunk and place a sticker on your windshield. Otherwise, a note will be left on your windshield to follow-up with the Chief of Tech.
  7. Participants are responsible for their own belongings. If you bring valuables, please have someone watch them while you are on course. RMC BMW CCA is not responsible for lost or stolen items.
  8. No racing, fast driving, or showing off in the paddock, staging areas, or on any of the access roads. Anyone found burning out or driving fast in these areas will be asked to leave the event without refund. There are no exceptions.  Save your fast skills for the course
  9. Spectators are allowed but cannot be in the "hot" area where the driving exercises occur.
  10. Lunch for the Autocross School and Car Control Clinic students and instructors will be provided.

If you are not familiar with autocross, the autocross information page is a good place to start.

Helmets
As of January 1, 2017, helmets must be Snell 2010 or newer. Snell 2005 and older helmets are no longer allowed.  Both full-faced or open-faced Motorcycle (M) or Special Application (SA) helmets are permitted. However, convertible or “flip-up” style motorcycle helmets are not. SFI 31.1 and FIA 8860 certified helmets are also acceptable. The club also has a few loaners available for daily rental for $10/day. If you plan to buy a helmet, we recommend that you read Bell’s helmet sizing guide.

Payment Processing

A reserve will be placed on your credit card when you register, but the charge will not be made until registration closes.

Event Cancellation/Refund

Should you find that you are unable to participate in an autocross for which you have previously registered, please return here to cancel your registration prior to the event registration closing time.  Doing so allows other drivers to participate.

Refunds will not be given for cancellations after registration closes, no shows, failure to pass the technical inspection, or equipment failure.
