On May 3rd we will have a unique opportunity in Augusta. Just a couple of weeks after the completion of the Masters in beautiful Augusta we will experience boats, cars and dinner. This special event is set up so you can enjoy just one or all of the various segments.
We will begin our day at Mercedes Benz of Augusta located conveniently just off I-20 (3061 Washington Road Augusta, GA 30907) for a non-judged (cruise-in style) car show. We will be able to start staging and cleaning cars at 10AM. We are interested in all Mercedes, new, older, and classics. We welcome Mercedes-Benz from people who are currently not MBCA members. From 11AM to noon we will enjoy looking at each other’s cars. At noon our gracious host (Mercedes Benz of Augusta) will provide us with lunch and a social time. There is no charge for this portion of the event.
Between 12:45 and 1 PM we will depart for the Interpretive Center located 1450 Greene St. Augusta, GA 30901. After a brief tour of the Interpretive Center, and a short video, at 2PM we will board the boat for a 3 hour narrated tour of the canal. We will have a short disembarkation at the head waters and then we will return back to the interpretive center arriving back around 5PM. This portion of the event is only $15 per person.
If you must, you may leave at the conclusion of our boat tour, but why not enjoy this day to its fullest, by joining is for dinner at the Augusta downtown Marriott, where we will be served an Italian Buffet in a private meeting room with access to Augusta’s famed river walk. The buffet will include, an antipasto tray, seasonal green salad, grilled and chilled seasonal vegetables, chicken, bay shrimp, meatballs, sausage, assorted vegetables and pastas topped with your choice of marinara or alfredo sauce, with ciabatta garlic bread and tiramisu. (In the event too few sign up for this, a plated dish in the restaurant will be substituted). The cost for dinner is $35 per person. Alcoholic beverages are at your expense.
After dinner a stroll along the river would be in order. For those who would like to spend the night we have received a special rate of only $149 per night at the Marriott. You can choose either tower. One has the kind of rooms you would expect in a Marriott Hotel, the other tower contains suites similar to a Residence Inn. (Personally, I reserved one of the suites). If you wish to arrive prior to Saturday or to stay beyond Sunday, they will maintain the price for additional nights. Members will be able to park in the secure parking deck (at a small fee) and a section of the garage will be reserved so we do not need to be concerned about the car parked next to us.
