2021 Chesapeake Region PCA - Intro to Autocross

Prince George's Stadium (Bowie)

About this event

Are you a new Porsche owner and want to understand what your new machine is capable of?  Have you owned your Porsche for awhile and have wondered what this thing called “Autocross” is?  Do you want to become a better driver by understanding how to control your vehicle in emergency situations?  Are you already a dedicated autocrosser but want to improve your skills?  This event is for you!

The day will start on-site at Prince George's Stadium with driver check-in and tech inspection to make sure your car is ready to autocross. A one hour Autocross Chalk Talk (classroom session) will be held outdoors at the autocross lot. Our Autocross Driving Instructors will cover many of the finer aspects of autocrossing:  general car control, weight transfer, oversteer/understeer corrections, precision braking, and a host of other techniques.

Once complete, we'll hop in cars where you will be able to apply what you have learned and receive additional ‘live-fire’ mentoring as you practice emergency braking, slalom techniques, and car control on a skid pad. Lunch and drinks will be provided during a break. Finally, you'll have a chance to put it all together as you drive through an actual autocross course.

Entry Details: $70 gets you the classroom session, basic skills driving exercises, and at least three runs through our autocross course. A maximum of 24 attendees will be accepted, there are no walk-ups available for this event.

Attendee Requirements:

COVID-19 safety guidelines are subject to change, we will provide any updates prior to the event.

As of July 2021: Participants must wear masks and observe social distancing, per CDC, state and county guidelines. While we are striving to make this event safe, with your Participation in and Registration for this event, you recognize and acknowledge the hazards of COVID-19, and you assume the risk of illness or death arising from a COVID-19 infection at this event. Note that planned events are subject to change, postponement or cancellation for weather or other reasons.

Event requirements

Participants must be 18 years of age or older and have a valid driver’s license, but our JPP (Junior Participation Program) allows any 16-18 year old child/grandchild of an active (in good standing) PCA member to participate in autocross events providing they have a valid license (this means their license allows them to drive on the street by themselves).  The parent or grandparent has to be present at the autocross, and must complete a "Parental Consent, Release and Waiver of Liability" form.  The minor participant must complete a "Minor's Assumption of Risk Acknowledgement" form.   All participants must complete a “Waiver and Release of Liability" form (signed on site if spectating and not attending, Speedwaiver signatures are accepted for registrants). Copies of these forms can be found below:

Each driver must wear an "M" or "SA" rated helmet carrying a 2005 or later Snell Memorial Foundation approval sticker.  For those purchasing a new helmet, a 2005 "SA" rated helmet is strongly recommended, but an "M" rated helmet is acceptable.  Loaner helmets and head socks are available for new drivers.

Participation Requirements/COVID-19 Safety Protocols:
The below requirements must be met by each participant on the day of the event.  Organizers will not have additional materials available on-site for participants who neglect to bring any of the below items. COVID-19 protocols are subject to change and we will provide any updates prior to the event.

  1. If you feel sick during the week prior and/or the day of the event, you must stay home! A full refund will be issued.
  2. You must bring a mask with you and carry it at all times. If you do not have a mask, you must leave the site and a full refund will be issued.
  3. You must wear your mask when you are in the presence of others. Do not be alarmed if someone asks you to put your mask on. We must all be good stewards of our personal health and the health of others.
  4. When using the on-site port-a-potty, you must leave your mask on so that we do not provide a vector for the virus to spread through the air in an enclosed space.
  5. Social Distancing must be followed at all times. Please keep six feet or more in between yourself and others.
  6. For those working the course, please bring your own work gloves.
  7. Please bring your own hand sanitizer.
  8. No walkup registrations.
