2020 TSCC Winter Karting Series #3 MAKE-UP EVENT

Le Mans Karting(Portsmouth, VA)

About this event

Update 3/16/20:

All TSCC members and friends,

Yesterday state and local governments placed restrictions on all events over a certain number of participants for an undetermined amount of time.  Unfortunately, we cannot positively control the number of participants at our events and ensure we stay below those limits. Furthermore, the concerns with social activities and the uncertainty of events could also lead us to situations where events could result in below our minimum break-even point resulting in losses to the club.

Autocross: Due to this the board has really no choice but to suspend the 2020 autocross season until further notice.  We do plan to develop a makeup schedule so that we can still maintain 9 points events for the season. However, it is too early to tell how long this delay will last and therefore what timeframe we will have available for our events.  Therefore, we cannot provide any further details regarding the 2020 schedule and make up events.

We will be processing refunds and/or cancelling payments for both the PE1 and the Novice School due to the uncertainty of the timeline for the events.  This will take place over the next day or two.

Season Subscription holders, please remain patient until we determine the plan for the number of points events and makeup events.  We will issue partial refunds if we are forced to drop events from the scheduled 9.

On a side note:  We have discussed two-day events and two events in a month to make up missed events but we just don’t have enough to go on yet.  This will be determined at a later date, though we would like member input on Saturday-Sunday double event weekends vs just adding another Sunday to each month.  Please email membership@tidewatersportscarclub any input you may have.

Winter Karting Series:  Due to the reasons above, and the challenges we have had with equipment this year, the board has elected to conclude the 2020 Winter Karting Series.  We have not determined if the three events held will result in a Series Championship or not. We are working with Lemans to collect the results data before making this call.

HPDE and Gripfest:  NC Government has placed 30-day restrictions on large events at NCCAR which currently does not affect our April HPDE event, however, we are actively watching and plan to make a call on the HPDE schedule within the first week of April.  As of now both events are still a go.

I apologize for these delays and appreciate your patience as we all strive to keep everyone healthy and safe.  TSCC is using this time to prepare and have the racing season get started as soon as possible.

For the new year we will be hosting our Winter Karting Series at Le Mans Karting in Portsmouth, VA!

COST:

$35 per person

All drivers MUST hold a Le Mans Karting License($25) which is good for a year and includes one free race(that can be used outside of the Winter Karting Series) and during the month of your birthday you get a free race. If you do not hold a license prior to the first series event, then you will need to purchase one prior to racing.

Due to popular request and huge participation last year (30-40 people every night!), we will be running two classes based on driver weightHellcat(Heavy) and Lotus(Light), There will be a minimum weight requirement of 200lbs to run in hellcat(heavy). This year we will be ballasting karts, Light drivers would be blasted up to 180lbs or a maximum 50 lbs of ballast and heavy is 260lbs or up to a maximum 50 lbs of ballast.

Format:

There are multiple track configurations, a different one will be used for qualifying each night, with the Megatrack being used for each Main race

Everybody will run TWO (7.5 min) qualifiers, your best time will be used to determine which of the (15 min) Main races you qualify for.

ALL drivers will run together regardless of class.  Each driver must add an “H” or “L” to the end of their racer name to identify which class they are running in for points to be calculated.

A Main will be the fastest 10 to 12 drivers

B Main will be the next fastest 10 to 12 drivers

C Main (etc etc)

# Of drivers in each Main race will be based upon how many participants overall are present, so as to not have a 2 or 3 person D Main for instance.

NEW this year also:  If you WIN any of the Main races, you may advance to the next level up to get a chance to duke it out for more points!  Win the B Main, you get to run in the A Main!

How Season Points are Calculated:

Points are given based on position in class… If you are a Hellcat class driver, and finish second in the A main, you will receive 100 points. If the next fastest Hellcat class driver is in 8th place, they will receive 98 points.   Where points end in the A main, they continue in the B main.  First place in class gets 100, second gets 98, third gets 96, etc etc. If there are 12 drivers in the A main, then for points purposes the B main first place finisher gets counted as thirteenth place for points reasons (76 points).  The formula is as follows:  Points awarded = 100 – (place finished*2) + 2.

There will be FIVE events total, we will drop TWO of those events with your worst finishes.  You can miss two events and still potentially win overall.  If you get two first place finishes (100pts each), a fifth place (92pts), a third (96pts), and a second place (98pts), you receive 298pts total.

You must use the same racer name each week to qualify for points. No exceptions!!

In the event of a tie for season points at the end of the season, then the lap times on record only from the Main races on Megatrack from the 2020 TSCC Winter Karting Series will be used to determine who finishes ahead of who.

Event requirements

All drivers MUST hold a Le Mans Karting License($25) which is good for a year and includes one free race(that can be used outside of the Winter Karting Series), a free paintball game, and during the month of your birthday you can purchase one race and get (3) races for free. If you do not hold a license prior to the first series event, then you will need to purchase one prior to racing.
