The North Atlantic Audi Club is, for the first time, hosting a Covered Bridge Tour (CBT) event in central Vermont. The CBT is a straightforward 100-mile tour exploring interesting back roads south of Route 4, West of Route 91, North of Route 130 and East of Route 7, providing many scenic vistas and traversing nine covered bridges. About forty per-cent of the route is unpaved roads, but they're suitable for all types of vehicles, being mostly smooth hard-packed clay or dirt with no large rocks or grass covered “humps” in the center.
The lunch stop will be at the Long Trail Pub and Brewery, and the finish will be at Kinney Audi in Rutland, VT around 4 PM. We will have a gathering at Kinney Audi, then proceed up the street to the Vermont Tap House for pizza and beverages for those wishing to socialize a while longer. The event will be held rain or shine, hopefully with lots of the latter.
This tour is based on a Time-Speed-Distance rally designed by club VP Mike Collier for another group. However, the route instructions will include mileages to every turn, and are “untrapped”. The arrival times at lunch and Kinney Audi are based on an overall average speed of 30 MPH, with an allowance of 10 minutes at each covered bridge to take pictures. But there's no need to average exactly 30 MPH as there are no checkpoints.
Entry fee for the day’s tour is $25 per car, and is limited to 25 cars. Please pre-register via MotorsportReg by clicking here. Event check-in is at the Hampton Inn, Ballardvale Dr, White River Junction, VT 05001 (802-296-2800) at 8:30AM, with a drivers meeting at 9:30 AM and the first car off just after 10 AM.
If you plan to stay overnight before or after the event, be aware that Vermont is getting into prime fall foliage time and there is no designated block of rooms being held at the Hampton Inn. Room rates in the area range from approximately $100 to $250 per night depending on what you wish for amenities.
