Vehicles and Classing

  • Event is open to all fixed-roof production based vehicles (including convertibles with factory hardtop attached or Targa tops with panels in place).  Aftermarket hardtops at the discretion of the Safety Steward.

  • Vehicles without fixed roof or doors require drivers and passengers to wear arm restraints to keep their arms in the vehicles at all times.

  • Dune buggy/Sand Rails are permitted to compete assuming they have proper rollover resistance, driver/passenger restraints and roll bars that extend above the occupants heads.

  • It is the Safety Stewards call to permit or deny any vehicle based on the vehicles possibility of safely negotiating the course, where the safety of the vehicles occupants as well as everyone is at the event is taken into account.

  • We will be reducing classing to 4 classes for the inception of Rally Cross in El Paso, from the nationally recognized 9 classes.

  • Car Numbers must be unique within the class.  The number can be repeated between classes.

  • The classes are as follows: Stock 2WD, Stock 4WD, Modified 2WD, Modified 4WD.

  • Front/Rear wheel drive vehicles qualify under 2WD.  Prepared vehicles qualify under Modified.

  • Stock cars may run summer tires, all-season tires and non-studded snow tires

  • Modified vehicles may run on all the above as well as competition approved rally tires as well as truck tires

Course

  • Course will be open for walking prior to event start.

  • Course will be finalized no later than 45 minutes before the drivers meeting to permit drivers to walk the course at least once before the drivers meeting

  • All drivers are required to work the course.

  • If a driver is unable to complete a worker assignment they may ask for permission from the Event Steward.

  • All drivers are required to help pick up the course/gear

Timing and Scoring

  • Scoring will be based on a cumulative time of 6 counted runs with your worst time subtracted out for a total time of your 5 fastest runs

  • Penalties:

    • Upright cone: 2 seconds

    • Missed Gate:  10 seconds

    • DNF (unable to complete course): slowest time in class +10 seconds

    • Sunroof open (on course): warning then 2 seconds

    • Windows Open (on course): warning then 2 seconds

    • Unsafe conduct: 10 seconds

    • Post finish cone hits (vertical cones only): DNF penalty as above

    • Failure to come to a complete stop: 10 seconds

    • Failure to complete a work assignment: DNF on driver’s fastest time.

  • A Driver may request a mechanical allowance to correct a problem inside the grid area.  The driver must be able to make his next scheduled run or have the run considered a DNF.  Example: driver requests a mechanical allowance before his 2nd run.  The driver has till before the time of his 3rd run to complete the repairs necessary or his 2nd run is considered a DNF and is subject to the above penalty.

  • Mechanical allowance for two driver cars will be treated as if both drivers were in single driver cars.

  • Timing shall be done in Axware using Rallycross mode, 1 drop, Auto Adjust DNF to 5 cones

  • In the event the timing gear is failing we will revert to a stopwatch start and stop with manual time entry.

  • In the event of a computer malfunction we will revert to a stopwatch and manual entry.

  • Incorrectly classed cars not being reported until after the event ends will be disqualified from accruing points for that event.

  • Scoring shall be done in Axware using percentage point system.   1st place in class will receive 100 points; all other competitors are a % off of the 1st place time.  Minimum 50 points.

  • Top 3 drivers will receive a trophy

Re-Runs

  • Competitors receiving a rerun will then be granted a rerun after a minimum of 5 minutes has transpired.  The driver, at their discretion, can elect to wait longer than the minimum 5 minutes but no longer than it would normally take for all competitors to complete 1 run.

  • If a competitor is red flagged for any reason during his/her run on the course they must stop and then proceed slowly through the remainder of the course.  They will receive a rerun.

  • If a competitor finds a downed cone on course they are required to stop and point it out to corner workers.  The downed cone is then added to the previous driver’s penalties.  The competitor who found the downed cone will be granted a rerun.

  • Any competitor whose time is affected by a timing and scoring malfunction shall be granted a rerun.

Passengers

  • Must sign a Temporary SCCA membership (no cost)

  • Permitted in front seat only wearing proper helmet and restraints

  • Permitted to hand hold cameras inside the vehicle

  • May not have their hands outside the vehicle at any time.

  • May not be a competitor that is attempting to be a passenger before his scheduled run group without express permission from the Safety Steward, Timing and Scoring or the Event Steward

Safety

  • Safety Steward has final say on all safety related issues

  • Safety Steward may issue an unsafe conduct penalty on a competitor who is acting in an unsafe manner outside of his run.  This can include but not be limited to: excess of speed in the grid area, exhibition in the grid area, etc.

  • All drivers and passengers must wear latest or two preceding Snell Standards (SA2010, SAH2010, SA2005, SA2000, M2010, M2005, M2000, K2010, K2005, K98), SFI standards 31.1, 41.1, 31.1A, 31.2A, 41.1A, 41.2A or British spec BS6658-85 type A/FR are acceptable.  Loaner helmets will be available.

  • Cars must pass a tech inspection before the event.  If the Safety Steward finds the vehicle unsafe then the driver will not be allowed to compete in said vehicle.

  • Course is subject to immediate change if an issue on course causes a safety concern.   The Safety steward will attempt to change the course when competitors in one run group have all had the same number of runs, but not necessarily before the other run group has had their attempts.

  • Speed limit is 5-10mph when not on course

  • Photographers must remain off course unless accompanied by a dedicated spotter and with the permission of the Safety Steward

Run Groupings and Multiple Cars

  • Unless otherwise noted, stock cars shall be in the 1st run group and modified cars in the 2nd run group.
