2017 North Carolina Autocross Championship

MCAS Cherry Point

About this event

Visit SCCA web site

PLEASE READ OVER THE ENTIRE EVENT WRITE-UP, there is lots of info here that will help you with registration.

The North Carolina Region SCCA is proud to announce the 2017 North Carolina Autocross Championship!  NCAC is an annual event that rotates between the five North Carolina autocross clubs; North Carolina Region SCCA, Central Carolinas Region SCCA, Highlands Sports Car Club, Triad Sports Car Club, and Tarheel Sports Car Club.  2017 is NCR’s second time hosting NCAC, so in celebration of this milestone we’re going to our premier autocross site: the Marine Corps Air Station at Cherry Point in Havelock, North Carolina.  The event dates are October 7th & 8th.  At Cherry Point we battle it out on the Foxtrot Taxiway.  This is a mile long stretch of asphalt that is sure to excite anyone who’s ever carved through autocross cones.  It is truly a phenomenal site, but it comes with some specific requirements for the Marine Corps to let us use it.  Also, you will not be charged until the event, you will not be charged unless you show up and check in to drive. Therefore please sign up and encourage others to do so.

EVERYONE MUST PRE-REGISTER.  PRE-REGISTRATION WILL CLOSE 2 WEEKS BEFORE THE EVENT ON SEPTEMBER 24! THERE WILL BE NO ONSITE REGISTRATION.

Be sure to Join the event page on FB at http://www.facebook.com/events/1795266137392750/

Event requirements

This year NCAC will have a theme just like national level events.  We are adding an element of the 3rd kind, 2017 NCAC Encounters.  So get in the mood and see how creative you can be!

EVERYONE MUST PRE-REGISTER.  MCAS Cherry Point is a restricted-access active Military base. Registration WILL CLOSE Sunday September 24th at MIDNIGHT.  If you are not pre-registered by then you will not be on the Gate-Access List and you will not be able to participate.  NO EXCEPTIONS.  WE ARE SERIOUS ABOUT THIS.  THERE WILL BE NO ONSITE REGISTRATION FOR THIS EVENT.  Pre-Register or you will not be able to autocross.

ALL questions asked by the registration software are MANDATORY, including the last 4 digits of your Social Security Number.  NCR does nothing with all of this information but send it to the Marine Corps for their background checks.  We know it’s a lot to ask for, but we’re getting permission to autocross on a runway on an active Marine Corps Air Station.  It’s worth it, trust us.

Everyone MUST go through Tech (Car and Helmet) to get an event Tech Sticker.  No tech stickers = No Autocross.

Upon arrival to Cherry Point on Saturday morning, all drivers will have to present their ID to be checked off of the approved Gate Access List. Passengers are subject to the ID check.  We need the information of anyone who will wants to be on site so there is a “Spectator Only” class in pre-registration that can be utilized for any guests who may be driving separately, but not competing.  All vehicles are subject to a search upon entry to the base.

When driving on base speed limits are strictly enforced, as well as no cell phone use.  Please keep in mind that you are a representative of NCR while on base.  We have a great working relationship with Cherry Point and don’t want anything jeopardizing our use of the base.

Overnight parking on site PERMITTED.  We have confirmed that we WILL be allowed to leave car/trailers onsite overnight.  All trailers will be inspected at the front gate and then if you choose to leave it on site you will be permitted.  Only Cars and/or Trailers will be allowed to be left overnight, anything else will have to be on or in the car/trailer and not left on the taxiway.  The Taxiway gate will be locked overnight but this does not secure the site.  MCAS Cherry Point nor NCR SCCA assumes any responsibility for lost, stolen or damaged items left overnight.  Parking is available at the Havelock Event Center behind the official event hotel for Friday night and Saturday if you do not want to assume the risk of leaving cars/trailers on site.

No camping on site.  This is final, sorry.

Directions to Foxtrot Taxiway:  Enter the base using the Main Gate from Fontana Blvd.  Follow Roosevelt Blvd until you pass the end of the big runway (to your right).  Take the next right onto Access Rd.  You'll pass Duffy Rd on your right, about a 1/4 mile farther there will be a driveway into the woods on your right.  That’s the turn onto Foxtrot, it is unmarked other than our “Auto-X” sign, so you have to be looking for it.  If you get to Rifle Range Rd you've gone too far.

Speaking of the Club Cup:

In NCR we’ve run the Cape Fear Cup, our own team competition, for the past 6 years.  One thing we’ve learned with that is that it’s not the top drivers that win for a team, it’s how deep the team is.  The other thing we’ve learned is that a team can’t win if they don’t have good attendance.  So with that said, to really show what each team has for this year's Club Cup Competition: We’re counting the Top 15 PAX times from each club!

If more than 2 teams don’t have 15 participants then we will count however many the second lowest club has, with a minimum of 10 racers.  Any teams that cannot meet the attendance requirements will be placed according to how many drivers they have participating.  Lowest attendance is 5th, second lowest is 4th, etc.  You can’t finish if you don’t start!
