Canepa Motorsport Museum & Vintage Trailer Museum Tours

by Manny Schatz

We have a rare opportunity to visit two Unique Museums. One is dedicated to auto racing the other to Vintage Trailers. The first is Bruce Canepa's Motorsports Museum, dedicated to the spirit of automotive competition, and the celebration of engineering excellence. On display are a broad spectrum of racecars and motorcycles from the golden age of motorsport to modern times. The museum showcases examples from multiple disciplines with everything from Can-Am to NASCAR, Sprint Cars to Le Mans.

Bruce Canepa has chosen each vehicle in the collection for it’s unique contribution to the history of the sport. The sports hero’s are well represented with cars driven by Richard Petty, Mark Donohue, Dale Earnhardt , Freddie Agabashian, Rick Mears, Peter Revson, Brian Redman, Pedro Rodriquez, Parnelli Jones, John Fitzpatrick, Jacky Ickx, Alex Xydias, and Steve McQueen.

An accomplished racer in his own right, Bruce Canepa has had the forethought to preserve and collect some of his own racecars from the past. These include the 1981 Pikes Peak hill climb car that carried him to 2nd overall, and the last Porsche 935 produced by the Porsche factory, which he raced in the IMSA championship in the early 1980’s.

Following the tour, we will head to the Vintage Trailer Museum.  We hope you will find the collection both fun and interesting. Our host is Steven & Jenay Katkowsky. Steven started collecting vintage travel trailers nearly 20 years ago.  As with cars, he started to focus on "barn finds" and little used or never used units.  Yes, they are out there!  You will even see possibly the oldest travel trailer in the country that was never used, a vintage 1927.  Since finishing the museum Steven & Jenay have hosted many clubs and both the men and the women seem to have a blast.  If you are at all interested in antiques and vintage, you are in for a surprise.  You can check out the new website at www.vintagetrailermuseum.com  Oh yeah, a few vintage cars to look at also.

For those of you who will be hungry and want to have lunch with fellow Club members, following the tours, there is an optional lunch at Oak Tree Restaurant nearby.
