Supplemental Regulations

Gates are open Friday until 10 pm, if they are closed honk your horn and we’ll come let you in.

If it is after 10 pm you are locked out until 7 am Saturday morning. If your accommodations involve sleeping on the ground, we absolutely guarantee the gravel on the outside of the gate to be as comfortable as the gravel on the inside.

Gates, tech and registration open at 7 am.

Drivers meeting  for Saturday Track day 8:45 am.

1.     Registration will be at the track office. We can take cash (preferred), check or credit cards.

2.     Once a car has been registered and tech’d, it may driven (with permision of the owner) by any driver that is properly entered in the event. That means RAT teams may loan a driver to another team. Any team found to be abusing this privilege by letting an unregistered driver on course will have their vehicle entered in a Destruction Derby with our 980 CAT loader.

3.     All persons whether driving or not must sign a release and wear the appropriate wrist band at all times to be on the property.

4.     We will be providing food for Saturday night only.
Please plan to provide for yourself for all other meals.
Except for time when we are preparing meals for Turn Workers and Staff, you are welcome to use our BBQ(s).

5.     Open fires are not allowed at the track this time of the year.

6.     Hot pit areas may be set up along the pit wall both  Friday or Saturday. Each team will have at least a 25 foot pit space available.   First arrivals, get first choice.

8.     All team must have one fully charged 10 lb. fire bottle available at the pit wall and manned by a person whose sole job it is to act as fireman whenever the gas cap is off the car. Only one 5 gallon fuel container allowed over the wall at one time.

9.     Drivers must be out of the cars while fueling.

10.  Fuel handlers must wear full fire protective clothing during fueling operstions.

11.  No smoking in the hot pits (yes I actually had someone do that once).

12.  Any work on the car that will take more than 10 minutes or require more than two wheels to be off the ground, must be taken to the paddock.

13.  Use of intoxicants of any kind when the track is hot is strictly prohibited.This applies to drivers, crew members & guest, even the pooch.

14.  Bring plenty of water, stay hydrated. Temps will be between 59 – 82 o.

15.  Camping is available at the track every night, including Sunday.

16.  We will be providing Day-Glo panels for novice drivers and those requesting extra courtesy in passing.

17.  All drivers are responsible to know the meaning and appropriate action to take for all standard flags and signals before they get to the track. See the RAT rules for any needed review.

18.  The zone of control for flag stations is:  line of sight when approaching the station and extends to a point abreast of the next manned flag station that is not displaying a flag.

19.  We will do our best to recover broken cars so that they can be repaired and returned to the race. We flat tow on a hot track and we flat tow like we race: helmet, gloves and belts on. Some cars may be deemed to not be recoverable until the end of the event. That’s the breaks.

20.  Over qualified cars are welcome, but will run in the exempt class.

21.  Requests for alternative rule interpretations: Clarifications-yes, alterations-probably not.

22.  Appeals: apples, pears, oranges and bananas have a peel, and some people have appeal. These rules do  not.  The decision of the event presenter will be final.

23.  If you have actual read these supplemental ask for a free RAT Race button at Registration. Offer good until we run out.

24. Announcements at the driver meeting take precedence over the published rules.

More later if I think of it.

Some of you guy's had questions, so here are a few answers:

FAQ’s

Is the race definitely on?

The race is on, even if it is just you and me.

Hell, I've been beat by drivers a lot slower than you.

“This is really late notice, are you guys running for sure?” (Merle)

Yep, rain or shine. The long range forecast is sunny and in the low 80’s

“Bill,
I want to make sure I get on your mailing list.

Also- I was wondering how to sign up for the Labor Day weekend event. I thought you said Saturday is a track day and Sunday is racing. Are you going to have HDPE sessions on that Sunday or just racing?” Thanks, Kevin

 &

“Bill, Is the Saturday $205 fee for the car or each driver? Also how long is the race on Sunday?” Thanks, Tom

Just e-mail me back with what kind of car you are driving, which parts of the event you want to run, and your emergency contact information. Show up at the track Friday evening or Saturday Morning and we will register you at the track. Cash preferred / Check OK / Credit card  if we must.

Gates open at 7:00 a.m.driver meting @ 8:30.

Saturday’s Track Day is a standard 9 am to 5 pm. We will knock of an hour for lunch.

We are doing school / track day / race practice on Saturday, it is my preference to declare sessions only if considerations of safety dictate and probably for morning sessions only. Other than that, it is open track.

 We will be celebrating some late August Birthdays Saturday night (let us know if that's you and we will add your name to the cake).

Sunday morning we will be running the "All-Pro" ( and maybe a few amateurs) RAT Challenge from 9 am to 11:30 am (or until the car breaks). The RAT Race begins at 11:45 am and runs to sunset, that is about 8 hours.

Track Day cars only need stock belts and a helmet. Convertibles (removable tops) must have an effective roll bar,

If you'd like to run your car in the race on Sunday, it needs to be race prepared (serious roll cage and competition belts, etc.) and you will need your own driver suit, helmet, etc. If you want to join one of our teams (driving stints are still available), you just need to reserve your spot, have your personal racing gear and cash.

“Thanks Bill. Assuming my brake pads get it in time for me to install, I'm in. Won't be 100% sure until next week. And thanks again for a great track day on Monday - appreciate the ride along as well. Looking forward to testing out some new lines.” Scott

Thanks for the reply Scott, hope to see you.

If you want to run the race on one of our teams, you will need to find a driving suit.

“Thanks Bill. I'd just be in for the track day on Saturday, so no rat race. One of these days though!”

~~~~~~~~~
“Yesss! Let’s do this!”
“Bill! I'm back in the US on a business trip, and just happen to be visiting Hood River on labor day weekend. I want in badly, and am trying to get people together.
One problem: I have zero driving gear with me. Any ideas?  I may have to buy some gear.
Are you requiring neck restraints?
Can I used a full faced SNELL approved motorcycle helmet for the RAT race?” August
Keep looking for a SA rated helmet, have you found a suit yet? Neck restraints are a driver option, not a required expense.
“Good morning Guys..
I would love to come up that weekend but unfortunately I will be down at Miller Motorsports Park this Sunday the 25th - next Saturday the 31st. Seems like my entire ability to drive this year consists of tracks that are not located in the NW.
I may try and drive out Sunday...maybe throw some $$ your way Bill to jump in one of the cars for some laps during the race (or maybe just the RAT challenge) :) What time is everything starting on Sunday up there?” Thanks Ronnie
Geez, you want a schedule!
Track Day is a standard 9am to 5 pm. We are celebrating late August Birthdays Saturday night, so how about the race starts when we wake up...11:45 am to sunset? that is about 8 hours.
We can do the "All Pro" RAT Challenge from 9 am to 11:30 am (or until the car breaks).
Give Sam, Benny and Uncle Bill a call and you've got your own team. Entry, car, fuel and brakes (one set) $400 each.
                                                                           ~~~~~~~~~

“Bill,

I’d be interested in attending on Saturday only, if that is possible.  Is there a rental available for that day?  This would be my first time running ORP, so I was thinking of doing it in something less extreme (and with less trailing oversteer) than my car.  If not, I will trailer my car up.”  Trey

We can have a car available for you (maybe several).

If I were you I would rent a slower car to learn the track, but bring yours to try out later in the day. The rental car rate for a single driver for a track day is $400. (Based on running about 30 minutes on, 30 minutes off). We can come up with a pro-rated formula for you if you want to run your car in the afternoon.

The Track Day fee is $205.

~~~~~~~~~
“Hi Bill.  I'm interested in driving on Saturday, no car, no team.  How much should I budget and what do I need to do to make it happen?” Thanks, Jubal
Hi Jubal,
If you are doing the track day only it's $205 and instructor (if you need one) is $100 and we split his time with another student.
A rental car can be shared with a friend for $300 each or you can have a car to yourself for $400.
Call me if you have any further questions.
I look forward to seeing you at the track,
Bill Murray
Can My Girlfriend run? Zack
Hi Zack,
Nice talking to you today.
Please confirm that she will be driving her Audi and is requesting an instructor for Saturday August 31. Gates will open at 7am and cars will be on track following driver meeting and the track tour (9:15 ish).
The cost is $305 and you can pay at registration Saturday morning. If for some reason you have to cancel, please let us know right away.
If you are bringing any other guests, please let us know, we will be serving dinner Saturday night. Verify the spelling of her name so we get it right on the cake!
I didn't mention it before, but if you wanted to drive and share a car with her, the cost for the second driver is only $150.
We look forward to having you run with us,
Bill Murray
“Just out of curiosity, isn't there a Conference race going on at Mission that weekend?
Why would we be using a Conference resource like the ICSSC Forum to advertise events that are in direct competition with Conference sanctioned events?
I am very much in favor of supporting the Conference track facilities to make sure they are economically viable as venues for us to race at in the future and want to see ORP thrive.  That is a two way street though, as Mission also needs to be supported as an outlying venue and has a significant number of their "eggs" in a single multi-race "basket".  If this track day and race program diverts even a single entry from supporting the Conference sanctioned and promoted race at Mission then it is improper that it be marketed to our members on the Conference website.” Rick
Gentlemen,
The STAR Projects Track Days, Driver's Schools and RAT Race Series are primarily about the number one problem we all face in racing and that is getting new people into the sport.
It's not about ORP as an outlying venue, STAR Projects has also put on Track Days and Races at Thunderhill and PIR. Our events have however provided an opportunity (and has proven successful) in drawing in folks that may never have tried racing through the more expensive and difficult paths.
Our event this Labor Day was announced with an entire 7 days notice. At this juncture in the season it strikes me as very unlikely that anyone is going to scratch a points race in Mission for a Track Day / Enduro in Grass Valley.
On the other hand, it does provide some motorsports opportunity for those who don't race Mission anyway.
That said  help me out here[], if you've got a friend or neighbor who would like a School, Track Day, Practice or Endurance Race in a relaxed no hassle atmosphere this weekend, send them my way. At the lowest price anywhere, they will have a great experience on a track that has become recognized as both the  safest and most technical in the Northwest.
Our new drivers who are eager for the competition of sprint racing are always directed to Conference. I think you will find them to be well trained and competent.
Yours for the sport,
Bill Murray
Bill. A bunch of us will be at Mission then. I hope you get a good turnout though. Cheers.
ICSCC License Director
Sorry for your predicament, but duty is duty. Will miss you my friend.
“Hi Bill,
Thanks for the invite. I am hoping to attend Saturday, can’t be 100% until I know if tires show up! Am I OK to show and pay on the day?”  Thanks again, Mark
Come run what you have. The RAT Race cars run 300 tread wear. As soon as you know for sure you can make it let me know you are coming, we will probably cut this event off at 30 cars.
                                                                                                                          ~~~~~~~~~~~

“Howdy Bill,

I'm in for Saturday, but can't get Sunday night off of work.  I'll give you a call a little later”. (Tony)

If you decide you want to run on a team Sunday, we will make you the first driver out. You can be back in Portland by 4 pm.
