V-Twin Madness

An A-B Gimmick Rallye by Milwaukee Region SCCA

August 6, 2016

General Instructions

Welcome to today's event.  Your rallymaster today is Jay Nemeth-Johannes.  If you have any questions about this material, feel free to ask the rallyemaster.  He can be reached during the event at (970) 290-9797.  There will be a rallye school at 10:30 near the registration table

Purpose The purpose of this rallye is to correctly navigate a course and observe various signs and landmarks.  As you drive along the course, you will be expected to execute instructions.  As you execute instructions, you should mark them on your score sheet.  You will be scored based on which instructions are executed.

Procedures The out line is located at "Ö.".  The rallye is self starting.  Leave whenever you feel ready by driving to the starter and following his instructions.  The driver, navigator and all passengers must sign the waiver located at the registration table.  You have until 2:00 P.M.  to reach the final control (located back here).

Instructions Numbered route instructions are to be executed in ascending numerical order.  When executing an instruction, both the a and b part of the instruction should be considered.  You should execute the first part of the instruction to become valid and discard the other part.  Mark either a or b on the route sheet, depending on which part you execute.  If it becomes possible to mark both the a and b parts at the same time (i.e.  both parts become valid at the same time), mark the c choice, and execute the a part of the instruction.  Instructions are considered valid at the point where the action is taken.  For example an instruction reading

a: RIGHT AFTER "FRED"

b: RIGHT AT STOP

would both become valid at the same point, assuming that the RIGHT would have been performed at the same point for both instructions.

Special instructions, or SIs may appear on route sheets, or be handed to you by rallye workers.  If appearing on the route sheet, they are active when the immediately preceding route instruction is executed.  If a special instruction is handed to you by rallye workers, it should be executed at the first possible opportunity.  Since SIs have a higher priority than the General Instructions they may change the wording of these general instructions.  SIs are cancelled when completely executed.  Art Harley and Willie Davidson will be joining you today.  Treat anything you hear them say as a special instruction. Say "RALLYES ARE FUN" at each control to receive additional special instructions.

Instruction priorities

  1. The rallyemaster
  2. Special instructions
  3. General instructions
  4. Numbered route instructions

Roads The rallye will be run entirely on paved, public roads.  Roads designated NOT A THROUGH STREET, DO NOT ENTER, DEAD END, DEAD END AHEAD, or NO THROUGH STREET do not exist.  Roads which are barricaded to prevent passage do not exist.  Alleys do not exist.  Unpaved roads do not exist.  If placed onto a road, you should follow that road until you execute another route instruction, even if you must perform a U-Turn to do so.  A sign identifies the road on both sides of an intersection unless a sign on the other side of the intersection identifies the road differently.  INTERSTATE 794 does not exist.  The parking lot at the start and finish should be considered paved and public

Course following The course is the straightest possible route, unless directed onto a road by name or number.  The course will be modified by instructions.  Right on WATER.  Consecutive counting opportunities cannot refer to the same sign or landmark.

Signs Signs will appear in quotes (i.e. "Sign") in the rallye instructions.  Signs may be located on the left or right side of the road when first encountered, but shall not be painted on the road surface.  Multiple signs on a single support should be considered as separate signs.  Signs painted on or attached to vehicles do not exist except for rallye related materials in your vehicle.  Punctuation does not exist on signs unless quoted in the instruction as part of the sign.  The words NORTH, SOUTH, EAST and WEST or their abbreviations do not exist on signs.  The word “GREASE” does not exist anywhere except on this page.  The numbers on street naming signs which designate address or block information do not exist.  Cursive writing does not exist.  The words ROAD, STREET, WAY, AVENUE, DRIVE and LANE or their abbreviations do not exist on signs.  Signs on mailboxes or mailbox supports do not exist.  Only uppercase has been used for signs and landmarks in the instructions, so ignore case.  Do not split words.

If a sign is quoted in an instruction, then the sign is being referenced.  If the sign is not quoted, then the actual landmark (generally a road) itself is being referenced.  For example "SHIELDS" refers to a sign with the word on it, but SHIELDS refers to the road itself.  Read defaced signs as they were originally intended.  Do not look back to read signs.

Scoring When entering controls, your score sheet must be completely marked up to that point before turning it in to the control worker.  Any answer which is erased, marked over or duplicated will be considered wrong.  In addition, the workers at checkpoints will ask you questions.  Correct answers will be worth points.  You must be at the final control before 2:00 P.M.  10 points will be deducted for each minute that you are late.  Any car which is more than 30 minutes late is disqualified.

Controls Controls will be designated by an official rallye sign which reads “Ö.” You enter a control when you pass the checkpoint sign on your right.  When entering a control, take whatever time you need to finish marking your answer sheet.  When you are ready, hand the control workers your answer sheet.  Follow any instructions that are given.

Misc.  Alcholic consumption, drug use, and unsafe conduct will be grounds for immediate disqualification.  Relax, and have fun.  You will have ample time to complete this event.  The finish location for this event is the Harley Davidson Museum (right here).  Protests will be handled on an individual basis by the rallye committee.  Protests will only affect the protesting car.  However the rallyemasters reserve the right to toss anything that they judge is unfair or incorrect.  If you wish to contest a gimmick, it must be submitted to a rallyemaster in writing within twenty minutes of your finish time.  There are no typographical errors in any of the rallye material.
