Diablo PCA Thunderhill Track Event

Thunderhill Raceway Park

About this event

Porsche Club America, Diablo Region Driver Education track event at Thunderhill Raceway in Willows, CA. Sponsored by Porsche of Fremont.

"be safe, drive fast, have fun"

THIS EVENT IS FOR PORSCHE CARS only – but it doesn't matter where the engine is!

October 10, 2012:  Please note the Beginners run group is now full.  Anyone registering at this time for this run group will be placed on a wait list.  Your credit card will not be charged unless you are accepted.  All Beginners on the wait list will be provided an update on their status within 1 week of the event.

This event is open to drivers with no track experience ranging up to advanced level. We have three run groups allocated by experience of track driving and, of Thunderhill. Passing will be with mandatory point-by in all groups. Instructors will be allocated to all 'first time' drivers to the track.

We take safety very seriously, and will 'black flag' any participant who disregards passing protocols or consistently fails to give point by's, including denying access to the track with no refund of registration fees if deemed necessary by the safety officer. (Fortunately, in 6 years we have hardly ever had this happen because, as a limited sized group, we have a chance get to know each other and conga lines rarely happen!).

We are a Porsche club, not a driving school or a driving business, we several run safe, fun and friendly track events each year. We do not race, time trial or time laps. We limit our events to 60 cars so that we can offer plenty of room on track and lots of track time. The registration fee includes a full buffet lunch in the Clubhouse and bottled water throughout the day.

General Information:

All drivers must certify that their car has passed a safety inspection, conducted by an approved safety inspector, within 30 days of this event.  Information on safety inspections is listed on the requirements page. (All Porsche dealerships are approved, as are all reputable repair shops in the Region).

A no-host group dinner and check-in, for those who travel up the night before, will be at Casa Ramos in Willows at 6.30pm on October 28th. Further details will be provided to all registered participants close to the day.

Registration Fee: $240 if registered on or before October 21st, cancellation fee $50. No refunds after October 21st.  Instructors $50. Lunch is included with all registrations.

Event requirements

IMPORTANT STUFF

1.    Registration is Critical -- priority for instructor allocation and acceptance into this limited event is decided by date of registration. In the unfortunate event that you register but we don’t have an available instructor, or place available, you will not be charged for registration or a cancellation fee.  Otherwise, your credit card is charged at time of registration or shortly thereafter when your place is confirmed.

2.   You will be assigned an instructor unless:

  • You have been signed off  “OK to Solo” by a Diablo Region DE Instructor, or
  • Your profile on Motorsportsreg indicates you have attended a number of track events as a solo driver in the recent past.

3.    You must present a completed safety inspection form (you certify that your car has undergone a safety inspection by an authorized person within 30 days of the event) and a valid driver’s license during registration at the track. Diablo Region PCA will assign and supply sticky numbers for your car which attach to the glass of your windshield and rear window. Please contact the track registrar at trackregistrar@diablo-pca.org if you need a copy of the safety inspection form.

4.  New drivers are invited (strongly recommended) to attend our DE101 briefing session, which will be arranged two or three weeks prior to the event. Please register with DEChair@diablo-pca.org

5. Event details, schedules and instructions will emailed to you about 1 week before the event.

6.  All registered participants will be provided a full buffet lunch in the Clubhouse. Any guests who accompany you can pay for their lunch at the track.

7.  If you are sharing a car with someone, you both need to register separately.  The registration form has a section where you can provide your car sharing details.

8. Helmets are required and must meet Snell SA 2005 or Snell M 2005 standards, or newer.   Helmets can also be rented from Thunderhill Raceway during the event (no reservations required).

9.  Questions?  Ask the chairman, Mike Roberts (dechair@diablo-pca.org) or email the registrar, Mike Ciopyk (trackregistrar@diablo-pca.org)
