Lime Rock Park 2012

Lime Rock Park

About this event

NEQ 2012 Lime Rock Park Driver School and Safety Seminar

The cost for this event is $525 for 2012.

The Northeast Chapter of the Audi Club NA (NEQ) is holding its annual event at Lime Rock Park in the beautiful Northwest corner of Connecticut on May 18-19, 2012.  Again this year we will be sharing track time  with the Lime Rock Club.  To insure that all participants get the same track time as at previous LRP events, we are limiting the number of students in each run group.  This will allow us to have three to four full track sessions on each day for every run group.  Please join us at LRP for two full days of fun and learning on one of New England's most beautiful road courses! The fee for this event is $525.  This is higher than other events due to the cost fo the track and the limited number of students we can allow (only 48).

Cancellation Policy (revised 5/24/11): No credits will be given.  All cancellations will be processed as a refund minus a cancellation fee as follows:
   - $50 Penalty up to 21 days before the event
   - $100 from 20 days to 7 days before the event
   - No refund within 6 days of the event

Noise restrictions at Lime Rock this year.  The following is an email blast that has already gone out to our MSR "members" about the new restrictions.  Sorry about the length, but please read to the end to see the actual restrictions and the penalty for violating them - it is essentially "one and done" - one violation and your car cannot go back on the track.  There will be no refund for any car that violates the noise restriction.

Below I have copied excerpts from a memo from the track to the NEQ. Dennis Cohan, who is very interested in this subject and who has had communication with other clubs and individuals, has some additional information about the testing equipment and methodology - please contact him directly for that information (dennismcohan@comcast.net).

To:      Steve Earley                                                        Date: 03/08/2011
From:  Skip Barber, Georgia Blades and Scott Mayo

We are going to deal with this proactively:

•        We are going to reduce the total noise
•        We are going to have a sound engineer calculate the total reduction
•        We are going to tell the town what we have done and we are going to stick with it

Even the biggest professional race, the American Le Mans Series, is down 2 dB. We are going away from a “one size fits all” dB limit; assigning every club a limit we think is reasonable in terms of cost, impact on performance, and effect on entries. We know “reasonable” doesn’t always mean “easy” or “cheap.”  The new limit, effective immediately for your club N.E. Region Quattro Club is 86 db.

 88 dB Porsche Club Day
105 dB Porsche Race Day
87 dB BMW Club
86 dB PDA non-race
86 dB SCDA
88 dB Lime Rock Drivers Club
105 dB Tuesday afternoon Test & Tune

If any member of your club has a car they believe, but aren’t certain, will meet the new limit, we will do our best to arrange a test at no charge. We will have some time in late March, in April, and some 5:00-6:00 p.m. time later on (by appointment only). Call Scott Mayo at 860-671-1403.
PLEASE don’t let anyone come for testing or a club day with an unchanged car that was too noisy last year. This isn’t about “beating the system” by short shifting or lifting off the throttle while being checked. This is about lending real meaning to the phrase, “We’re all in this together.”
Other contact numbers:
Georgia Blades -  860.671.1407
Skip Barber -  860.671.1409

A helmet with a SNELL SA10 or SA05 rating are the only helmets that may be used.
No more M (motorcycle) helmets will be allowed.

A banquet will be held at a cost of $45.00

The NEQ is a great driver's school that focuses on safety and training and is a great place to start to learn high performance driving.

Who we are and what we do

The Northeast Chapter of the Audi Club of North America, or "NEQ" for short, is a non-profit organization which was founded for the purpose of driver education and safety training. To that end, the club runs approximately 5 events at motorsport facilities around the Northeast, including Lime Rock Park, New Jersey Motorsports, Watkins Glen International, and Mont Tremblant. Our events teach safe driving techniques and both low and high speed vehicle handling. In addition, the club usually runs Winter Driving Schools, social events, including Fun Runs, Social in NYC and other social gatherings.

When you join the Audi Club of North America, if you reside in the NEQ chapter area.you are automatically put on our mailing list, which means you should receive an election ballot towards the end of the year. If you do not, please contact the ACNA's office and confirm your mailing address is correct.

In an effort to keep our members informed of upcoming NEQ events we have established an e-mail notification process. Please make sure nationals has your e-mail address.

If you are unsure, please contact

Event requirements

Membership Requirements:

To participate in this event you must be a member of Audi Club North America (ACNA).  To join ACNA and receive your membership number please go to AudiClubNA.org

Once you have this number you will be able to register for all future NEQ events.

Vehicle Requirements

The newer generation of driver's school applicants often bring vehicles whose performance is beyond their driving ability. Because of this the NEQ Board of Directors passed the following resolution which requires the vehicle to more closely match the driver's ability.

  1. Non-solo applicants - Those drivers who have not soloed at NEQ events.
    • Vehicle must be Registered and Street Legal
    • Vehicle must be insured
    • Vehicle must have DOT Street Tires with a treadwear rating of 140
  2. Solo applicants
    • Vehicle must be Registered and Street Legal
    • Vehicle must be insured
    • Vehicle must have DOT legal tires
  3. Instructors
    • Any tires acceptable
  4. All convertibles must have permanent roll bars and meet the Broomstick rule described HERE

Tech pre-Inspection

Well in advance of any on-track driving event, you'll need to get your car pre-inspected by a competent mechanic, who will have to provide a completed and signed copy of the Safety Inspection Checklist form (first page only) for you to bring with you to registration. Please get your car inspected at least two weeks before the event to avoid disappointment if the inspection uncovers repairs that must be completed before the car will pass.

The Northeast Region Quattro Club recognizes several Audi-VW tuners and service centers. They are NEQ supporters with years of experience and scores of satisfied customers. As a benefit for NEQ members they will provide free tech pre-inspection for applicants of our schools. Bring your Safety Inspection Checklist form. After inspection they will sign your form to be sure you are eligible for our event. Naturally there will be a charge for any parts or labor that are additionally required to prepare your vehicle. Two of these sites are APR distributors. They are all participants of our events with much experience in regard to car preparation and advice for upgrades. You will be happy with their services without the worry of dealing with a Audi-VW dealership or corner repair shop. Be sure to call for appointments well in advance of an event.

A helmet with a SNELL SA10 or SA05 rating are the only helmets that may be used.

No more M (motorcycle) helmets will be allowed.
