ATL Region SCCA Circuit Cross

Atlanta Motorsports Park

About this event

This June 9th at Atlanta Motorsports Park in Dawsonville, GA will be the first ever Atlanta Region SCCA SOLO CircuitCross! The "CircuitCross" will be an on-track SOLO event using the AMP "short course" the same weekend as the Atlant Region SCCA Driver School / Time Trial weekend. While Club Racing uses the "long course", SOLO competitors will have a autocross course setup (utilizing cones) on the paved race track. Not only is this an opportunity to compete in a unique event format, but also will allow SOLO drivers to check out Atlanta's newest track facility. Designed by Herman Tilke of Formula 1 notoriety, the track features almost 150' of elevation change and is one of the most technical tracks in the United States.
Not only will there be this exciting new event, but also, following the trophy presentation will be the Atlanta Region SCCA members meeting. What does this mean? Free food. Any one who has come to participate or help with the SOLO event will be treated to some excellent local fare from the Region's best cooks. We really hope you stay to meet some of our Club Racing brethren and meet some of the leaders of our region from both SOLO and Club Racing.
To register for the Membership Meeting, follow this link (so we can get an accurate count):   https://www.motorsportreg.com/index.cfm/event/event.advert/uidEvent/85C04E6E-E6B2-DDE9-852F07EE78877053

CircuitCross Information

1. Entry fee will be $65 for SCCA members and $80 for non-members. Note: This event is NOT part of the normal SOLO "season pass".
2. There will be a limit of 100 people allowed to register for the event.
3. The format of the event will be a one day National Tour (3 morning runs, 3 afternoon runs). We'll use standard SCCA SOLO rules. As for timing and scoring, we'll take the aggregate time of each round to determine your total time. Currently, we are unsure if we'll be able to "flip" the course due to how Club Racing and SOLO will be sharing the facility. So, it will serve you well to continue to drop time throughout the day and you should be able to "learn" the course throughout the day.
4. Registration will consist of a standard class registration (eg. AS, STX, FSP, EM, AM, KM, etc). However, the event will have 7 trophy classes. Each car will fit into one of these classes:
1. Road Tire (ANY normal SCCA class - but with 140 treadwear tires or greater)
2. Stock (AS, BS, CS, DS, ES, FS, GS, HS)
3. Street Touring (ST, STC, STS, STF, STX, STU, STR)
4. Street Prepared (SSP, ASP, BSP, CSP, DSP, ESP, FSP)
5. Street Modified (SM, SMF, SSM
6. Prepared (CP, EP, DP, EP, FP, GP)
7. Modified (AM, BM, CM, DM, EM, FM, KM)
The classes will be scored by the standard PAX values as defined here: http://home.comcast.net/~paxrtp/rtp2012.html
Road Tire Note: In the case of the bracket rounds (as defined below), a "Road Tire" classed car will be running with an additional .975 PAX modification unless it rains, in which case the .975 modifier will be removed.
5. After the standard 7 classes have a winner determined, there will be an additional round of runs for each of the class winners. The format will be a single elimination, bracket style that is the best of two runs for each round. The winner of the final bracket will be the overall event winner. That winner will get free entry into the next Atlanta Region SCCA "CircuitCross" event. The brackets will be determined as follows:
First Round:
Bracket 1 - Seed 1 = Bye
Bracket 2 - Seed 2 vs Seed 7
Bracket 3 - Seed 3 vs Seed 6
Bracket 4 - Seed 4 vs Seed 5
Second Round:
Bracket 5 - Winner of Bracket 1 and Bracket 4
Bracket 6 - Winner of Bracket 2 and Bracket 3
Third Round:
Bracket 7 = Winner of Bracket 5 and 6

Note: During the bracket rounds, should there be any timing / scoring issues for any single driver, both he and his or her competitor will get re-runs for that run. Neither competitor's runs will be announced until each of their runs have been completed (ie. both 1st runs, both 2nd runs).
6. 4 wheels in the grass is a DNF for that run.
Note: Due to the nature of the venue, there will be tire barriers and run-off areas in play. If you are a novice, please talk to the registration chief to determine if you qualify for this event. The course will still travel at SOLO speeds (normal, street speeds that top out at highway speeds briefly), so as long as you're capable of basic SOLO car control, this will be an excellent testing ground to see if track days are something you'd like to try. Also note, the brand new asphalt will facilitating excellent levels of grip (to slow you down) and we will setup the SOLO course to minimize the likelihood of someone causing any serious damage to their car (by using run-off areas).

Tech will be from 8:15 - 9:30.  Check-in will be from 8:45 - 9:30.  First car off will be at 10:00 am.
