Asphalt Ventures and rEvolution Performance are teaming up to bring you the
2011 rEvolution Karting Clinic
This event will bring the worlds of high performance karting and high performance driving together for an exciting, informative, and challenging event for all attendees. The goals for this clinic are:
- Provide a low-pressure environment to become familiar with high performance karts, and an asphalt based circuit; allowing beginner and intermediate drivers time to come up to speed at their own pace
- Provide a bridge between the automotive world of high performance track days, and the world of high-performance karting
- Provide classroom instruction, discussion, and support not usually found at karting events
- Provide an intense (but still low-pressure and optional) competitive aspect without the risks to driver and car found during automotive competitive events. This also presents a perfect opportunity to teach some racecraft and strategy that most automotive track day attendees do not get.
This clinic will be held at the Carolina Motorsports Park kart track in Kershaw, SC. We will be using their Honda powered 9hp Birel karts (capable of speeds up to 50mph.)
The clinic will be led by professional coach Chuck Hawks and will also include coaching and presentations by professional race driver and former karter Mike Skeen. Chuck is on the road over 300 days a year teaching and coaching in the automotive industry, driver's ed classrooms, and professional race driver coaching. Mike is currently racing the Cragar Wheels #2 Chevrolet Corvette in the Perelli World Challenge series (currently 3rd in points in the top GT class and recent pole setter and race winner at Mosport!)
The clinic will consist of three 10-12 minute sessions for each attendee. If we get maximum capacity, there will be five run groups with 10 drivers per group. Each group will get three sessions. When you're not on track, you'll be watching the action track side or you'll be in classroom discussing the action on track to get the most out of each session.
The Iron Butt Enduro will be a 30 minute race. There will be 10 karts in the race, each kart will have a team of at least three people. (We may allow 4-member teams, depending on demand and final rules details.) Each team will have one "hot shoe" driver with two beginner or intermediate drivers. Final rules will be based on total race entrants.
Check in for the event runs from 11:00 to 12:30... boxed lunches will be provided on arrival
Driver's meeting will be @ 12:45
Clinic begins at 1:00 - kart sessions rotate until @ 4:45
Enduro race begins @ 5:00 after the competitor's meeting

- Asphalt Ventures Iron Butt Enduro Race - $50 (optional)
Event requirements
The clinic is open to everyone, but we will be grouping drivers of similar experience. By "experience", for this event, what we mean is this:
Single speed or geared karts capable of speeds well in excess of 30 mph. These would be karts found at places like Rush Hour, or Victory Lane Karting... and of course the karts at VIR, CMP, and events like Endurance Karting.
The karts at CMP are capable of up to 50 mph, and will accomodate drivers up to 7' tall and up to 350lbs.
Minimum age is 12 years old for this event.
A helmet and neck support rental is included in your entry fee. If you have your own, you are welcome (encouraged) to bring it. Closed toed shoes are required, clothing of natural fibers is recommended. Long sleeves and long pants are recommended, but shorts and short sleeves are approved by CMP.
