Summer School, July 9th & 10th, 2011
Courses offered:
HPD101 - Introduction to High Performance Driving Fundamentals and On-Track Protocols
- Comprehensive classroom sessions, Ronn Hale classroom instructor
- Experienced in-car instructors that will be with you throughout the weekend
- Over 3-1/2 hours of track time (not including reconnaissance laps or rides with your instructor)
- Focus will be on getting familiar and comfortable with at-speed, on-track driving
- Pre-requisites: 18 years old with a valid US drivers license
- $250 registration fee (includes both days)
HPD201 - Introduction to Advanced High Performance Driving Techniques and Theories
- Comprehension classroom sessions, Ronn Hale classroom instructor
- Experienced in-car instructors will be provided to assist in understanding new techniques and theories and will help implement them into your driving as well as helping to improve upon your base knowledge
- Over 3-1/2 hours of track time (not including reconnaissance laps or rides with your instructor)
- Focus will be on expanding your experience envelope and developing new skills
- Pre-requisites: Must have successfully completed at least two HPD101 semesters (or similar program with another organization). Must have solid and consistent working knowledge of on-track protocols and safety procedures.
- $250 registration fee (includes both days)
HPD301 - Advanced High Performance Driving Theory and Techniques (includes practical application lab)
- Curriculum developed and presented by Chuck Hawks
- In-car instructors will NOT be provided for this course. Your on-track sessions will involve exercises that rEvolution Performance has developed over years of driving and coaching experience. These exercises (the practical application labs) will allow you to directly use what is being taught in the classroom sessions. Each session will be purposeful and goal oriented and will be discussed in subsequent classroom sessions
- Over 4 hours of track time
- Focus will be on introducing advanced techniques and driving theory that you will be able to use and apply in all facets of driving.
- Pre-requisites: Must have successfully completed at least 2 semesters of HPD101 (or similar) and at least 4 semesters of HPD201 (or similar intermediate or advanced instructed programs with other organizations.)
- $500 registration fee (includes two days of clinic classroom and track sessions as well as all course materials for later review)
HPD299 - Advanced High Performance Driving "Self-Study"
- Solo track time
- In-car instructors will NOT be provided for this group, however Asphalt Ventures can arrange a personal driving coach for you. Attendee may also provide their own driving coach (with prior approval)
- Over 3-1/2 hours of track time (same run group as instructors)
- Pre-requisites: Must be solo qualified with Asphalt Ventures. For more information, please email us

- Standard 2-student entry (no charge)
- Optional 1-student entry ($150)
- Discounted entry for HPD301 Clinic (no students, $100 discount)
Event requirements
Requirements
- Helmets must meet Snell SA2000 specification or better (Snell M-rated helmets may be approved with advanced request, please email us if you have an M-rated helmet, or if you're not sure)
- Long pants and long sleeves of natural fibers while on track (short sleeves may be approved depending on weather conditions)
- Closed toed shoes with a firm sole
- Vehicle inspection performed no more than 60 days prior to event. Download the Asphalt Ventures inspection form here and have a mechanic perform the inspection before you arrive at the event. (Asphalt Ventures also accepts a current Tarheel Sports Car Club annual inspection sticker in lieu of our inspection form. (We do NOT distribute THSCC stickers)
- Convertibles are not approved at Asphalt Ventures events unless they have a competition 4-point roll bar with harnesses and proper padding
- Passenger seats must be of "equal restraint" as the driver seat (must be of similar form and function, restraints must be equal or better and must not be expired or worn)
Basic Rules (you will receive an entry packet that will explain these and many more in much greater detail)
- Passing in HPD101 and HPD201 will be limited to straights only - Asphalt Ventures uses hand signals to facilitate passing communication
- Passing in HPD301 and HPD299 will be open, but will still require using hand signals (some HPD301 clinic exercises may have specific rules)
- Standard driving school flags will be used
- Any spin or 4-wheels off requires a pit-in and a debrief with the grid marshal on duty (do not wait for a black flag, come on in)

There will be a "Three-strike" rule in effect each day.
- First uncontrolled off or spin will be a normal de-brief.
- Second uncontrolled off or spin will be a de-brief and a warning.
- Third uncontrolled off or spin and you will be parked for the day.
- Controlled offs do not count against you.
- Failure to pit after an off-track causing us to black flag you, or failure to abide by any yellow, black, or red flags will also count against you.
- Driver's meetings and classroom sessions are mandatory
Payment
Upon completion of registration, you will be asked for your credit card information. You card however will NOT be charged until after we've reviewed your entry for accuracy. If you do not want to use your credit card, you can also pay by e-check. If you do not want to make an electronic payment over the internet, please email us and we'll add your entry manually and we will accept a personal check or money order made out to Asphalt Ventures.
If you have an Asphalt Ventures discount code, you will see a box to enter the code. Make sure to "update" the order form to apply the discount. If you have a pre-existing Asphalt Ventures credit, you will see a note informing you that you can use part or all of the credit as a form of payment.
