Parktown Porsche Advanced DE Day

Gateway Motorsports Park

About this event

Come out and join us at Gateway International for an advanced driver school!

This event is only open to instructors and pre-approved advanced drivers. If you haven't previously instructed for the STL Region PCA or driven in a STL Region PCA Advanced Day or STL Region PCA Advanced Friday Open Day, you must email for approval before registering. If you are an advanced student and wish to be approved, please contact Mike Rosen or Geoff Baltz at deinfo@stlpca.org

PCA and non-PCA members are welcome.  This event is not limited to Porsches.  It will follow our regular St. Louis Region PCA DE rules.  Because enrollment will be limited, participants will have more available track time than during a regular DE weekend.

Event requirements

Revised Car Requirement Based on PCA national standards: Open Cars - Any make of standard production car delivered with factory installed rollover protection meets the minimum standards for PCA DE events.  In these cars the soft top must be in the up position or the hard top installed.  However, advanced day drivers of open top cars must have a roll bar that can actually be demonstrated to comply with the "broomstick" rule even if the car is equipped with factory installed rollover protection.

If a car does not have factory installed rollover protection, a roll bar must be installed, which meets the "broomstick" rule (the driver's helmeted head is below a bar placed on top of the rollbar and windshield).  All targa tops must be installed unless there is additional rollover protection.  All sunroofs must be in the closed position.  The windshield alone is not considered to be factory rollover protection.
New Harness Rules. 5 and 6 point Harness Standards:
If the participant chooses to install a 5 or 6 point driving harness several changes to the automobile must be made to create a safe occupant restraint system. Harnesses must include an antisubmarine strap and be mounted in an approved manner consistent with the manufacturer’s instructions. The Harness system must be used in conjunction with a seat which has the supplied routing holes for the shoulder and anti-submarine belts. All pieces of the restraint system must be installed in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions.
This means that a seat is required to have the proper routing holes for the harness as supplied by the seat manufacturer for the shoulder and anti-submarine straps. The shoulder straps should be mounted at 90 degrees to the axis of your spine or at most 40 degrees down from horizontal. Because the addition of the harness system means that the occupants are fastened upright in the vehicle, a properly padded roll bar or roll cage is strongly encouraged to complete the SYSTEM. The use of one without the other may result in an unsafe environment and is not a COMPLETE SYSTEM. Due to UV degradation and wear the harness webbing must be replaced every five years.
 4 Point Harness Standard:
Four point harnesses are not allowed in vehicles with factory supplied seats containing integrated headrests, unless the seats also have routing holes for shoulder harnesses.
In addition to the standard SFI and/ or FIA approved five and/or six point system, the standard will allow a four point system that meets the following requirements:
1.       Meet the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 209
2.       Attaches to the factory seat belt mounting points
3.       Each belt is designed to work in a specific vehicle and that vehicle tag must be attached to the belt system
An example of a system that meets the above criteria is the Schroth Quick Fit system.

Equal Restraints: Both student and instructor shall have an equivalent restraint system. For example, if the driver has a 5 point system, the passenger must have the same.
Helmet Requirements:  You must have a helmet that is Snell SA 2000 or M2000 rated or newer. These are available through a number of internet sites as well as some motorcycle shops. SA helmets provide flame resistance and provide more protection from an impact with a rollbar, M helmets provide a wider field of vision. Full face helmets are obviously more protective than open face models. ABSOLUTELY NO LOANER HELMETS WILL BE AVAILABLE AT THE TRACK AND THERE WILL BE NO REFUNDS IF YOU ARRIVE WITHOUT A PROPER HELMET.
Tech Inspections:  Your car must be inspected by a qualified technician no more than 30 days prior to the event. A safety inspection is required for all participants. No vehicles will be inspected at the track – you must have this done beforehand. All vehicles must be certified by a qualified technician and meet specific safety requirements outlined by the St. Louis Porsche Club. Exact technical requirements are detailed on the event tech inspection forms. Random inspections will be made at the track to insure the vehicles conform to safety regulations. Vehicles failing inspections at the track will be disqualified from participation without any refund. No SUVs or trucks allowed in any run group.
Qualifications: This event is reserved and screened for Instructors and qualified advanced driving students. Please be sure to include all information on past track experience, professional schools, Driver Ed’s , etc.  Those applying will be screened for experience, and acceptance to participate is solely at the discretion of the event Chairmen.  If you haven't previously instructed for the STL Region PCA or driven in a STL Region PCA Advanced Day or STL Region PCA Advanced Friday Open Day, you must email for approval before registering.  If you register without pre-approval and aren’t approved, you will be charged a $25.00 fee.
To be perfectly clear: This is not a Racing Event.  It is run under the same rules as our regular Driver Ed. events.  Violation of those rules forfeits your privilege to the entire event, without refund of payment.

Porsche Club of America is a private, not-for-profit organization.  It reserves the right to deny the acceptance of any Driver's Education application, or to revoke any application previously accepted, for any reason or no reason, except that it will not deny or revoke a Driver's Education application solely on the basis of race, creed, color, sex or
