The 36th Annual Portland Historic Races will take place July 6 through 8, 2012, at Portland International Raceway. On the heels of a successful 2012 event, this year will be bigger and better than ever!!! Park your car in the prime event location, on the grass, with plenty of room, and with the largest collection of cars at the event. Why shine your car and park it way back in the dirt?
This year on Saturday afternoon, the famous Hooters Pit Crew will be at the Corral signing autographs and for photos at the parade lap and immediately following. Make your car very happy with a photo shoot, and yourself with Hooters promo offers.
The smash car is back this year with all swings of the sledge hammer going to charity. Kids are welcome to come and whack the car!!! All proceed go to the charity.
The 2012 Portland Historic Races, features an annual entry list of more than 250 prestigious historic race cars, representing a wide variety of manufacturers. The restored cars are divided into groups according to make, age and horsepower, where they are raced at high speeds close to or at their full potential. Boasting an open paddock, the Portland Historic Races allow enthusiasts the opportunity to see race cars up close and interact with the drivers and crew. The event also features a display of more than 700 collector cars and hot rods, a food and wine pavilion, a kid zone, an autocross, and a vendor midway.
The event is a fundraiser for the Community Transitional School, a Portland-based organization that provides important educational services to children who are homeless or otherwise at risk of school failure.
The Portland Historic Races are produced and sanctioned by the Historic Motor Sports Association (HMSA). Established in 1977, HMSA specializes in race events with historic cars, emphasizing the preservation and proper use of historic race cars.
Yes, it is time again to start planning to attend the "best attended" club event of the year. You will not want to miss this event. The historic car races are held at Portland International Raceway here in Portland. As a car club, we are invited to display our cars along with all the other car clubs in local area. A "corral" will be set up for the cars at a prime spot inside the track area as last year. Our space allotted is dependent upon how many cars are registered so please register as soon as possible to get your space reserved.
For the cost of $45.00 you will get two (2) three-day passes to the races, reserved inside parking in the Corral on Saturday and Sunday (inside park parking on Friday), a commemorative dash plaque and an opportunity to participate in the Parade Lap around the actual track. Our club will have a tent set up with munchies and refreshments. The local BMW dealerships and businesses have always been very generous with their support by supplying door prizes for the Saturday 2 PM drawing. We have a number of new special events (including the Smash Car and Dunk Tank) planned throughout the weekend at the corral so don’t miss out!
Come join us for the Collector Car Club Autocross!!! The autocross is set-up in the pro-pits. All proceeds for this activity will go directly to the CommunityTransitional School. Hours of operation are: Saturday: 9:00 am - 4:00 pm and Sunday: 9:00 am - 3:00 pm. The autocross will not run during lunch time due to the car parade. The order of running will be first come, first serve, based on when you DRIVE FOR YOUR CLUB. The cost is $5 per run/per car. The Portland BMW Club has been the top fundraiser for this event every year - and donates heavily to this charity.
There will be more information coming in the upcoming weeks. Please keep your eyes open and check the website regularly. Polish up your great German car and plan on attending. The event goes on - Rain or Shine!
The BMW Corral is for BMW automobiles and motorcycles only!!
