Dear PDX & Time Trials Participants,

The Reno Region Time Trials program is continually being refined to better meet the needs of our members. Last year emphasis was placed on learning to drive safely in a high speed track environment in the Performance Driving Experience (PDX) program. In 2008 this emphasis will continue plus an entry level competition group will be included with the addition of Club Trials at each of the five Time Trials event days. Three of the events will be held on Saturday and the September event will be two days, Saturday and Sunday. All five of the events will include Performance Driving Experience (PDX) non-competition high speed track driving for street legal cars, Club Trials entry level competition for driver’s that may not have a competition license or the driver apparel and car preparation required for Track Trials or wheel-to-wheel racing and finally Track Trials for licensed competition drivers with a higher degree of driver safety equipment and car preparation.

Level 1 Performance Driving Experience. PDXoffers at least 1½ hours of on-track time with instruction for all participants. Most autos may be used provided they pass a basic safety inspection prior to going on-track. Driver equipment requirements are minimal. A Snell Foundation M95 minimum rated helmet and a cotton long sleeved shirt and long pants are required. A limited quantity of loaner helmets are available no-charge and the official Reno Region Time Trials long sleeved cotton tee shirts may be purchased on-site at a cost of $15.00. Two PDX run groups will be available with drivers assigned to either group depending on their track experience.  Driver’s logs from previous events will be used, in-part, to determine placement in run group. Convertibles must have either an SCCA Time Trials spec roll bar, a factory removable hardtop installed with factory attaching hardware or factory rollover protection. PDX may run on any approved course configuration at the discretion of the Chief Driving Instructor, Chief Steward and Safety Steward. Use of AMB Transponders or any other method of lap timing is not allowed.

Level 2 Club Trials. Club Trials is an entry level competition that does not require the degree of car and driver preparation required for Track Trials. A competition license is NOT required and cars that are prepared to Solo Stock or Street Prepared category may participate. Convertibles must have either an SCCA Time Trials spec roll bar, a factory removable hardtop installed with factory attaching hardware or factory rollover protection. Club Trials participants will be offered a practice session, one qualifying session and a timed race. Club Trials participants may compete for the Reno Region Club Trials class championship. Club Trials is restricted to a course configuration that does not include the full length front straight.

Level 3 Track Trials. Track Trials is a timed competition event for experienced Time Trials Competition license, Time Trials Novice Permit or approved alternate license holders. All cars competing in Track Trials must have, at a minimum, an approved roll bar and Driver’s safety equipment including a Snell SA2000 rated helmet or higher and an approved fire resistant drivers suit. Track Trials vehicles shall have a Time Trials Vehicle Log book or a standard SCCA Competition Log book. Annual Tech will be available in advance for Track Trials cars. Track Trials participants will be offered a practice session, one qualifying session and a timed race. Track Trials participants may compete for the Reno Region Track Trials class championship.  Track Trials may run any approved course configuration.

Notice: Transponders are not allowed in PDX but are required for all Club or Track Trials competitors wishing to have timed results or to compete for region championship points. Rental transponders are available on a first come, first served basis for a $25 fee.
