2008 Southern Fried Track Event

HPDE & Time Trial

CMP is one of the most challenging (and sometimes frustrating) tracks on the east coast.  One of Alan Wilson's designs (Barber, Mid-America, Miller) it is one of the most rewarding circuits to learn.  With both high-speed and slower technical sections, it has something for everyone.  Major changes to the track and facilities for 2008 will make this a very popular event.  Strategic repaving of the track and paddock areas, new day garages and classrooms, a new skidpad, and most importantly, a re-configure of the infamous T12-T14 complex.

All experience levels: $300
Optional Skid Pad: $20 (Required for Green Group)
Optional Time Trial (for prepped cars only): $30/$20

One-Day discount available for advanced and solo drivers (choose your group on the order form to see the option

Wet Skid Pad Only: $40

We're excited to be offering an option of the wet skid pad exercises by itself.  This could be used for people wanting to attend the event, get some seat time to experience some extreme vehicle dynamics with out the risks (however small they may be) of driving on track. You'll have access to the event paddock, and we can even arrange for some rides with one of our instructors during some hot laps.  You will also be eligble for parade lapping during the lunch hours when available.  Add a second day of skid pad seat time for only $10 more.

Also... there will be an instructor clinic and lapping day on Friday, June 20th just before this event.  It is listed as a separate event on MotorsportReg.com.  Click here to register for it.

This event is a two day high performance driver's education event with an optional time trial for qualified drivers.  You can expect three 25 to 30 minute driving sessions each day with classroom discussions held between sessions.  We will also have a wet skid pad available (Green and Yellow groups will have dedicated sessions.)  Students will be grouped based on experience level into FOUR groups:

  • GREEN for novice and beginner students (generally 0-3 events)
  • YELLOW for novice/intermediate students (2-20 events depending on various factors)
  • BLUE for upper intermediate/advanced students (10-40 events)
  • RED for advanced solo/instructor overflow (30+ with verifiable solo experience)

Solo attendees please note:  If you have not driven at one of our events in the last 12 months, you must submit contact information for the club with which you drove most recently.  We reserve the right to place an instructor with you for a check-ride, with or without references.  Please make sure your previous event history is up to date on MotorsportReg.com.

An instructor is included with your entry fee, some advanced drivers may be asked to drive solo if we do not have enough instructors.  If you have not participated in an event with TZC/THSCC, you will have an instructor your first day with us unless we have some mutual track friends that can vouch for your experience level.

Instructor group will be the WHITE group but you are allowed to drive in student groups so long as you follow the passing rules designated for THAT particular run group.

If you are an instructor for other clubs, but have not instructed with us before, and yo are interested in instructing with us, please email Mark Vitacco ASAP

RULES AND PROCEDURES: All participants; students, solo drivers, and instructors should download and review our event rules and procedures.  These rules are in place for your safety and for the safety of those around you.  They also help ensure our events run smoothly and efficiently.

HELMETS: All participants will be required to wear a Snell SA rated helmet (no motorcycle helmets) year 2000 or better.  This requirement was put into effect January 1, 2006.

Tech Inspection: All cars, students' and instructors', must pass our annual safety inspection before your first event with us each year.  You can download the form and take it to your mechanic for them to complete and sign/stamp the form.  Bring it with you to event check-in and we will review it, then issue an annual tech sticker for your car, good for the remaining events this year.  You can download the form from www.timetrials.net

Roll Bars: All convertibles and time trial cars must have an SCCA approved 4-point structural roll bar with SFI rated high-density padding.  Factory roll-over protection is not acceptable at our events*.  Please view our tech guide for complete specifications and requirements.  Closed-top cars, cars with sunroofs or t-tops do not require roll bars.  A-roof (targa) cars will be approved on a case-by-case basis.

*As of February 2008, we now accept 2005 and newer '987' Porsche Boxsters for our HPDE program without additional roll over protection.  Drivers MUST be able to meet the "broomstick" test with helmet on and seated in a normal, on-track driving position.  They are not approved for time trial use.  Any questions, please email us.

TIME TRIAL The time trial portion of our event is optional for an additional fee.  The time trial is open to drivers that have had at least two HPDE events and have been signed off to solo for at least one session at each event.

All time trial cars are required to have a properly installed SCCA Time Trial spec 4-point roll bar with proper SFI high-density padding, 5 or 6 point harness (no older than 5-yr from date of manufacture), Snell SA2000 or better helmet (no M-rated helmets), a mounted fire extinguisher, and an AMB compatible transponder.
Remember, if you have a transponder already, be sure to edit your vehicle profile on MotorsportReg.com to include the number!!  If you would like to purchase a transponder at a discounted rate, please contact Mark Vitacco at the address below.  For complete details on our time trial series, please download and read the time trial rules and procedures

High Performance Drivers Education
Any driver with a valid US-issued driver's license (under 18 must have parent or legal guardian present) may attend.  Car must pass an annual safety inspection (detailed below) to show they have been checked over and are appropriately maintained for high-speed track use (not racing).  Drivers must wear a helmet and proper clothing (detailed below).

Time Trial
The time trial is a separate optional, competitive event open to drivers with the proper qualifications and cars built to SCCA Time Trial specifications. (Detailed on previous page.)

THIS EVENT WILL RUN RAIN OR SHINE

  • This is NOT a race school - Our events focus on learning proper high performance driving technique that will translate well into both street and track use.  We focus our instruction on car control, on-track protocol, and advanced techniques that will be used with most clubs that run on-track driving events.  We pride ourselves on the safety of our participants and our guests.  We have developed an event that we feel offers the most for your track dollar while keeping the costs reasonable and the risks minimal
  • As of January 1 2006, all helmets must be Snell 2000 specification.  We will no longer accept M rated helmets of any year, nor will we accept Snell rated helmets older than 2000.  We have a very limited supply of loaner helmets that can be reserved on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • All participants cars must complete our annual safety inspection before attending their first event with us each year.  The inspection must be done at any of our annual inspection days (announced on www.timetrials.net) or at any independent shop with access to a car lift.  The inspection form must be filled out and signed or stamped by the mechanic.  The form must be turned in at event check-in and a TZC/THSCC Annual Tech Sticker will be issued.  The annual inspection  form can be found here
  • All convertibles participating in the event (HPDE AND/OR Time Trial) must have an SCCA Approved 4-point sctructural roll bar built to SCCA GCR specifications for Time Trials.  Factory roll-over protection is not acceptible for our events*.  Please see our tech guide for more details.
  • All participants, staff, and guests must sign the event insurance waiver at time of check-in.  Everyone may also be required to sign the track's waiver as well.  Armbands will be issued when the waiver(s) are signed and must be worn at all times
  • Each track has its own set of rules and regulations regarding the use of its facilities.  Each participant will be issued a copy of these rules and will be required to follow them and make sure any guests abide by them.  Any infractions may be cause for expulsion from the event and any fees charged by the facility for any rules violations will be assessed to the individual(s) responsible
  • All participants will be expected to read and follow the guidelines set forth by TZC / THSCC to ensure a safe, fun, and extremely rewarding event.  Please download and read our rules and regulations document before arriving at the event.
