ATTENTION ALL DRIVERS: Come join us for the most fun, competitive racing in the DC area in the NCC Winter Karting League at Allsports Grand Prix in Dulles, VA. This summer we experimented with the Allsports staff trying out modifications to the track layout. As an outcome, we will rotate the races through five different course layouts. Each race day will consist of a 15 lap qualifying heat followed by a Micro Grand Prix of 4x20 lap heat races. The format for the racing will be the same each week, but the course will rotate through the five courses twice during the season. Heat racing allows competition between drivers with similar skills, experience, and lap times. As usual, best times from each heat will be used to establish the grid for the following heat. This makes for tight battles on the racetrack and some good camaraderie after the races are finished. Races will be scored based on finishing position; points will be accumulated within the weight classes and for the overall points total. At the end of the season each racer will be allowed to drop one event from the points total to keep his or her best nine events.
We will continue to accumulate points within weight classes and group our racers by their weight having everyone race in the 6.5HP Regular Karts. We expect to create three weight classes. We will evaluate weights of those participating by the third weekend and establish the exact weight ranges to be used for the season. Last season the weight classes were based on the participants weights and they were as follows; <172, 174–198 and 201-258lbs. To provide a BMW flavor the classes were known as the M-Coupe, M3 and M6. For each race day, starting positions will be based on qualifying heat times or previous heat times. Racers will compete on the track based on qualifying time but accumulate points within their weight class. We will designate a new racer as Rookie of the Year. Last year we had a tie for Rookie of the Year between Michael Saul and Michael Wu. In the hope of encouraging participation by the ladies, we will again offer the Danica Patrick Award for Best Lady Racer. In the 08-09 Season, Anne Saul was our Best Lady Racer and we expect Anne return to defend her title. We will award first through third place Overall Points Champions.
We will award Weight Class Champion first through third places also. Those winning the overall first through third places will not be eligible for the Weight Class awards.
START TIMES: We ask that you SHOW UP 30 MINUTES PRIOR TO OUR STARTING TIME to register, get suited up, attend a drivers' meeting, and be ready to race at the appointed starting time.
New Concepts: As described above, for the first time, we will race on modified course layouts. These courses will range from tight technical to flowing open, high-speed configurations.
NEWCOMERS WELCOME: Many of you have raced in past League events, and you know how it works. But you should not be intimidated if you have never before raced with us, or anywhere else. We see newcomers learn very quickly and do very well in the NCC League. More details about the track, the karts, and the facility are at www.allsportsgp.com <http://www.allsportsgp.com> .
