11th Annual Superbowl Grand Prix – Team Races

ATTENTION ALL DRIVERS:Come join us for the most fun, competitive racing in the DC area in the NCC Winter Karting League at Allsports Grand Prix in Dulles, VA.  This summer we experimented with the Allsports staff trying out modifications to the track layout.  As an outcome, we will rotate the races through five different course layouts.  Each race day will consist of a 15 lap qualifying heat followed by a Micro Grand Prix of 4x20 lap heat races.  The format for the racing will be the same each week, but the course will rotate through the five courses twice during the season.  Heat racing allows competition between drivers with similar skills, experience, and lap times.  As usual, best times from each heat will be used to establish the grid for the following heat.  This makes for tight battles on the racetrack and some good camaraderie after the races are finished.  Races will be scored based on finishing position; points will be accumulated within the weight classes and for the overall points total.  At the end of the season each racer will be allowed to drop one event from the points total to keep his or her best nine events.

We will continue to accumulate points within weight classes and group our racers by their weight having everyone race in the 6.5HP Regular Karts.  We expect to create three weight classes.  We will evaluate weights of those participating by the third weekend and establish the exact weight ranges to be used for the season.  Last season the weight classes were based on the participants weights and they were as follows; <165, 166–199 and >200 lbs.  To provide a BMW flavor the classes will be known as the M-Coupe, M3 and X6M.  For each race day, starting positions will be based on qualifying heat times or previous heat times.  Racers will compete on the track based on qualifying time but accumulate points within their weight class.  We will designate a new racer as Rookie of the Year.  Last year Frans Hansen was our Rookie of the Year and he went on to win the NASA Spec E30 National Championship!  In the hope of encouraging participation by the ladies, we will again offer the Sabine Schmitz Award for Best Lady Racer.  Anne Saul is the two time defending Lady Racer of the Year and she "wants some freakin' competition!"  We will award first through third place Overall Points Champions.

We will award Weight Class Champion first through third places also.  Those winning the overall first through third places will not be eligible for the Weight Class awards.

START TIMES: All Start times are 2:30 PM, until the last two weeks then 1:00PM. That means be ready to drive AT 2:30/1:00! We ask that you SHOW UP 30 MINUTES PRIOR TO OUR STARTING TIME to register, get suited up, attend a drivers' meeting, and be ready to race at the appointed starting time.

New Concepts: As described above, we will race on modified course layouts.  These courses will range from tight technical to flowing open, high-speed configurations.

NEWCOMERS WELCOME: Many of you have raced in past League events, and you know how it works. But you should not be intimidated if you have never before raced with us, or anywhere else. We see newcomers learn very quickly and do very well in the NCC League. More details about the track, the karts, and the facility are at www.allsportsgp.com <http://www.allsportsgp.com> .

Event requirements

REQUIREMENTS:Only two! First, you need a valid driver's license. Second, you need a good attitude.  We strongly encourage League participants to join the BMW Club, but it’s not a requirement. The League is a series of fun, competitive events, and we intend to keep it that way. It isn't a bumper-car ride at a county fair, and it isn't a feeder series for the Rahal-Letterman ALMS GT race team, but it is real racing competition. We will all follow the rules set by Allsports, show good sportsmanship, and respect our fellow racers.  Allsports has helmets, drivers suits, everything you need.  You can bring your own helmet and drivers suit if you like, but you can use Allsports Equipment free of additional charge.

SIGN-UP REQUIRED:League events will be held on Sunday afternoons during the winter on the schedule listed at the link below. Due to the popularity of the League and the limitations of the facility, we are limited to 30 drivers per event. Drivers intending to participate should register at  http://ncc.motorsportreg.com. This will give us and Allsports an idea of who is committed to show up for the 30 spots allowed.  Registrants beyond #30 will be shown as on standby, and will automatically move up whenever earlier registrants drop out.  Last year, we were able to accommodate [almost] everyone who wanted to race.  We will give priority to BMW CCA NCC members over non-members.  There’s a distinct advantage to BMW CCA NCC membership with the financial support provided by the club and we would like to encourage everyone to join.  We will accept non-member participation, but we would encourage participants to join the BMW CCA.  Every Monday before a race the following Sunday an email will be sent out simply as a reminder of the upcoming race.  If you would like to be added to the email list, please contact Mike Saul at michael.s.saul@gmail.com
