Mt. Baker "Climb to the Top" Tour

Saturday August 17, 2013, Mt Baker Tour, 8:00 am meet-up - 3:00 pm end of lunch

Start meeting point is at the Smokey Point Rest Area at 8:00 am for meet/mingle/sign-in. 8:30 am tour update/directions. 8:40 am first group departs. Smokey Point Rest Area is located at MP 207 along I-5, 8.2 miles north of Marysville.

Join your fellow PNWR members for a scenic drive north through Snohomish, Skagit and Whatcom counties on Hwy 9 with a brief rest stop in Acme before continuing via Mosquito Lake Rd to to Hwy 542 and eastward to Artist Point at 5,800 ft elevation.

We'll stop briefly at the Glacier Public Service Center just east of Glacier to obtain a mandatory $5.00 'National Forest Recreation Day Pass' for each vehicle at their automated ticket-pass machine. Note: This is NOT the 'Discovery Pass' which is valid for state parks, Dept. of Natural Resource Lands, or Dept. of Fish & Wildlife trail heads.

Linger at the summit admiring the stunning views of Mt Shuksan and Mt. Baker or take a hike to Table Mt. or one of the various short trails along the ridges for photographic opportunities of landscapes or flora/fauna. After a little exercise and break, make your way down Hwy 542 approx. 13 miles to Glacier for lunch between 12:30 - 3:00 pm at Milano's Restaurant (360-599-2863) for some Italian fare, e.g. panini sandwiches, pasta seafood or vegetarian offerings (see www.milanorestaurant.us for full menn). At the conclusion of lunch, you're free to make your way home south via Hwy 9/I-5 or drive to Bellingham and take the beautiful Hwy 11 (Chuckanut Dr) south and say that you drove the '9-11- Loop' that day.

The maximum number of participants for this tour will be 60 as we'd like to keep the group logistics manageable and the lunch experience enjoyable for all those involved. Extra staff will be available at Milano's during 12:30 - 3:00 pm to ensure prompt service with our group.
