Turkeys in the Trunk 2014

Checkered Flag Porsche

About this event

Please join us for a Saturday of fun and camaraderie at our 5th annual Turkeys in the Trunk charity event on Saturday, 22 November 2014.  This event supports the Foodbank of Southeastern VA in their effort to collect food for the Thanksgiving season at their Mayflower Marathon event, a weekend long effort to fill as many big rigs as possible with donated food for distribution for less fortunate local families.

Stuff a frozen turkey (or 1100 pounds worth if you're last year's winner) and other Thanksgiving food items in your trunk – or ‘trunks’ for you Boxster/Cayman and 914 drivers – and head to Virginia Beach.

We’ll gather at Checkered Flag Porsche at 1PM, weigh-in everyone's stuff and enjoy some refreshments, then ~1:45, we’ll drive in a Porsche caravan over to Pembroke Mall where the Mayflower Marathon is taking place to drop off the turkeys and other food items we’ve brought.  The member who brings the most food will win a prize.

Next, we'll head out for the drive to the home of members Jeff and Jen Coston in Suffolk (139 Brittany Lane, Suffolk) for the social and dinner (oysters, shrimp, chicken, and burgers).  Expected arrival time at the Coston's is 4PM.

Please note:  The goal of the Foodbank's Mayflower Marathon is to collect frozen turkeys, non-perishable food items and monetary donations.  Ideally, the food donated at the event can be turned into a fairly typical Thanksgiving meal for a person or family in need. The donated food is packed in boxes at the event by volunteers for distribution at the Foodbank beginning on Monday, November 24.  So, please consider this when you decide what to donate.

In the interest of fairness, and to keep with the intent of the food drive, the competition will include some guidelines.  First of all, the food has to be loaded into a Porsche.  We will have 2-door and 4-door categories for the heavyweight competition.  Also, the ‘judges’ will be looking for loose interpretations of the Marathon’s intent of collecting food for holiday meals - turkeys and the fixins’ are the goal; not low-volume/high weight bags of flour intended to bake the dessert pie or cases of soda to wash them down.

We hope to see you on this good day of giving, thanksgiving, and camaraderie to kick off the holiday season.  We request you RSVP for the event through this site so we can get a head count for the Marathon and for dinner at the Coston's, which is on the club, after the fun run.  So hit the “Continue” button and sign up for a day of fun and charity!

If you prefer to RSVP via email, please click HERE and let us know if you'll be joining us at Checkered Flag and/or the dinner (and if you're an oyster fan).
