What is it?

It's a chance to drive your car in a fun, safe, learning environment, on one of the the most fun tracks in the Southwest. It's a chance to learn more about yourself, your driving skills, and your car. It's a chance to meet and socialize with a diverse group of people who really enjoy our Audi brand of cars.

If it is your first or tenth time to an Audi driving event you will have a blast. Novice drivers will spend the morning of the first day in a classroom session and practice driving exercises to learn vehicle dynamics. The class and exercises are designed to enhance your car control skills and knowledge of your car.

During all driving exercises students drive their own cars and have club instructors to assist in developing better driving skills. This provides helpful input to ensure you get the most out of the experience, all while in a safe learning environment.

After the car control sessions the balance of the learning is on the track.  Run groups are established to allow students to be on track with other drivers of similar experience. Novice students always have an instructor in the car during on track sessions. Passing is allowed only on designated sections of the course, and under controlled circumstances, making for as safe of an environment as possible. Time spent on the track without side streets provides a great opportunity to safely learn advanced driving techniques and explore the capabilities of both car and driver.

Who are we?

The Audi Club of Southern California is a chapter of the Audi Club of North America (ACNA), which is a 501c(3) non-profit organization with the purpose of educating its members in driver education, driver safety training, and education about the Audi brand. The SoCal Audi Club serves the members in Southern California, Arizona and Southern Nevada areas, but our events are open to anyone. To support the educational experience, SoCal Audi Club offers events from new Audi introductions, technical seminars, fun drives, social events, tours, and High Performance Driver Education throughout the year. SoCal Audi Club is able to take advantage of many Audi dealerships and well recognized private service centers around the geographic proximity to Southern California. Many of our sponsors offer discounts to club members.

As a member of ACNA, you automatically become a member of the SoCal Audi Club if you live in the three states listed above. You will receive a quarterly magazine from ACNA, as well as frequent emails from us to keep you up to date on all the scheduled events happening throughout the year.

This HPDE event is an exciting, fun, and educational two days of learning on a terrific race track. Learn your car and your cars capabilities in a controlled environment. Leave the event with new driving skills that will enhance your daily driving experience. Mingle with other Audi owners and club members for new friendships and lasting memories.

Special Celebrity Guest

We're very pleased to announce that Patrick Lindsey will join us for the weekend.  You race fans already know that Patrick drives the No. 73 Park Place Motorsports Porsche 911 GT America in the TUDOR Championship GTD class.  He finished 5th in the Rolex GT class last year, but he is an Audi driver originally where he campaigned a B5 S4 for several years.  He is a long-standing ACNA instructor with a number of other racing accomplishments; you can read more about his racing experience at his website

During the Saturday banquet, Patrick will be offering us a captivating talk, and over the course of the weekend he'll be glad to talk to you one-on-one or sign autographs, and give out fan cards.  Patrick has raced for several different teams driving a variety of cars, so he can share stories about driving Mustangs and Corvettes in addition to the classic S4 and his current Porsche ride.  In addition to the talk, we'll be sure to allow for Q&A time at the end of the discussion.

For instructors and solo’d C and D drivers, here's your chance to have a pro in the car with you during one (or more) of your track sessions over the course of the weekend.  Take advantage of this opportunity and Patrick will ride in your passenger seat and provide feedback, commentary, and assessments of your laps.  A link to register for these ridealongs will be available after you complete your registration for the HPDE

BUT NOW THERE’S MORE!!! As an extra featured bonus, Patrick has graciously offered to bring his racecar – yes, a full-on racecar! – to Buttonwillow for a limited series of opportunities for you to be in the car with him…at speed…after we bolt in a right seat for three sets of hot laps on Sunday. This is open to all participants; the only prerequisite for this adventure is to be registered for the event. These rides will be auctioned at Saturday evening’s banquet dinner, so you don’t want to miss the event…and you certainly don’t want to miss dinner!

Event requirements

Cost, Membership and Identification:
The entry fee is $495 for the 2 day school.  Instructor registration is $195.  This includes everything necessary for two days of learning more about yourself and your car. Tech, classroom materials, classroom instruction, on track instruction, lunch both days at the track, Saturday night dinner, event shirt, raffle and auction (great bargains), and two days of on track driving.

Event requirements:
BEFORE REGISTERING, please review the following requirements and information:

Membership in Audi Club North America (ACNA)

Car must pass tech inspection (you are encouraged to have car pre-tech'd).

Failure to meet safety check will disqualify students from event and potential forfeiture of the entry fee.

Equal seat belt restraints required for driver and instructor.

Vehicle Requirements:

Again...no convertibles are allowed unless there is a 4 point roll bar.

SUV's, SAV's and Pick-up trucks are not allowed, due to high center of gravity.  Sorry, no SQ5's.

Helmet Requirements:
Participants must wear helmets bearing Snell 2005 or later certification. This certification label MUST BE accessible for verification for the helmet to be allowed. Helmets are available when registering.

Classroom Sessions:
This is a driver's education school and is not practice for any racing or speed contest. All participants are required to attend classroom sessions designed to teach vehicle dynamics and driving tecniques. These sessions will continue throughout the day to help participants understand the fine art of precision driving.

Tech Inspection:
You are encourgaged to have a qualified individual/mechanic inspect your vehicle and verify its safety. This inspection should occur within four weeks of the event. In addition, at check-in on Friday afternoon there will be a tech inspection at the hotel.  This is a driving school, so good, street-worthy condition is all that is required.  You are solely responsible for insuring that your vehicle is safe and capable before you come to the track.  Event fees will not be refunded due to mechanical failures.  Failure to present a completed Pre-Event Safety Inspection Report or failure to pass the tech inspection will disqualify you from participation in the event and your entry fee may be forfeited.

Friday tech inspection will occur from 4:00-7:00 in the hotel parking lot.  If you pre-tech your car, it will need to be done by your mechanic no earlier than 30 days prior to the event.  By having your car pre-teched you can save a lot of time during the check in process.  Although not encouraged, late arrivals can have their car tech'd Saturday morning at the track, starting at 7AM.

Other Requirements:
All participants must present a valid driver's license and be at least 18 years of age. Seat belts (same type for both driver and passenger) must be securely anchored to the floor and/or stock mountings.  This is not a racing school but rather a safe, high speed driving school, conducted on a race track under close supervision by experienced instructors. You will learn how to handle and control your vehicle. This will help to prepare you for emergencies that may occur in normal driving situations. It will also allow you to explore your capabilities as a driver and those of your vehicle. At no time will you be pushed or encouraged to go any faster than is comfortable for you. All participants will be organized into run groups in accordance with experience, skill, and type of vehicle.

Garages:
8 garages are available at $80/day. SORRY - SOLD OUT.

Medical Information Form:
Completion of the Medical Information Form is required. A sealed envelope will be provided and this form will be delivered to the rescue personnel before driving begins. After conclusion of the event, your envelope and its contents will be shredded, or returned unopened to you, whichever you prefer.
