RGRSCCA Solo - Auto-X School

UNM G Lot

About this event

We'll be hosting our spring auto-x school, for those looking to get into auto-xing.  The school will take place on Saturday, March 18th.  Registration will be capped at 20 participants for Saturday's event, so register early!

Event requirements

Welcome to (presumably) your first solo/Auto-X event! This guide is the key to your success in SCCA solo and the Rio Grande Events. Here are some basics to help get you started.

  • Registration – (near the timing trailer) Make sure you bring:
    • Valid Divers license
    • SCCA membership card (if you have one)
    • Choose a unique 1 or 2 digit number you would like to use for your car
    • You will get a $10 discount on Event #1 the next weekend if you choose to compete!
  • Paddock – This is where you will park your car, unload any loose objects you may have and prep your car.
    • Find your Novice Instructor –  a veteran driver is assigned to help guide you through your first event
    • Remove loose items - spare tire, trunk floors, jacks, floor mats, tire pumps, coolers etc…
    • Inflate your tires to the max PSI.  Someone in the paddock usually has a tire pump
    • Place your number & class on your car. Once you receive an assigned number from registration, mark it on your car’s side window or door.  Painters tape works best. There may be a roll in the paddock or registration area, or you can borrow from someone
  • Tech – This is a simple vehicle inspection for safety. You will need to get tech’d by an inspector before the event starts.  The Novice Instructor or Registration can tell you where to find a tech inspector
  • Drivers’ Meeting – All drivers must attend.  You will receive key notes regarding event flow, grid/work assignment, safety and any other details
  • Novice Walk – Immediately following the drivers’ meeting there will be a novice walk for all new members.
    • Don’t worry about your car as you will have time to move it later
  • Grid – Stage your car in grid just prior to driving in run order. Leave all items in Paddock except:
    • Helmet – if you have one (loaners will be available in grid)
    • Tire pressure gauge (if you have one) – you can always borrow one in the grid
    • Sun block and drinking water
  • Working – all solo events are work/drive events.  When assigned, you will be asked to work a specific job while others are driving.  Most Novices will be assigned to work on course.  Please report to the timing trailer to receive your work assignment. It is recommended to bring:
    • Sun block, hat, sunglasses, drinking water
    • Comfortable shoes for standing and light running
    • Do not bring your cell phone. Leave it in your car!
