Reno Region Solo School 2015

Reno/Stead Airport

About this event

It's time to get the season started, Reno style.  We start with our excellent Solo School, where you can let it all hang out without fear of bending expensive sheet metal!  Here's a summary of the day's events:

Morning: There will be a mix of classroom and driving events throughout the morning.  The whole group will get split into two groups, one will be in class while the other is out on course.  The course elements will be separate, like pieces of a typical autocross course but not linked together.  Typically they are a skid pad (constant radius turn), figure 8 (two skid pads linked by short straights), a slalom section, and something like a decreasing radius turn inside some cone gates.  Each student will have an instructor for each element.  Basic profile for course events is that you do a single run through a course element, then get some feedback from the instructor, then do it again a few times.  Then move on to the next course element.  Alternate classroom time with course elements.

Afternoon:  All the individual course elements will be combined into a single autocross course.  Each car will have many chances through the course, all with instructor feedback.  Additionally, the instructor may take a student for a ride in his own car, to demonstrate points.

Cost for all this is still a reasonable (cheap?) $25.  You must be an SCCA member to participate, so a weekend membership is available for an additional $15.  If you join SCCA for the year, that $15 will be credited to the yearly membership cost (which is $75 total).

Come out and join the fun, Biggest Little City style.

Directions to the Reno/Stead Airport site:  From Reno take US Hwy 395 North toward Susanville to the Stead Blvd Exit, go East on Stead (right). Continue on Stead Blvd until you come to a "Y" intersection, remain in the  right lane and proceed on Mt Vida toward the airport tower. Once though the airport gates turn left on Alpha and immediately right on Petriciani and through the gate, head for the grandstands on your left and look for the Registration and Tech areas.

Event requirements

Tech and registration will open at 8:00 AM, mandatory driver's meetings no earlier than 8:45 AM.

Bring a Snell 2000 or newer helmet if you have one.  The club has helmets available to borrow if you don't have one.

Your car should be clean inside, no loose items that can move around during driving maneuvers.  Good condition seat belts.  That's about it.  This isn't about who has the best car, it's about driving the one you have.
