Registration for Tech Tactics West 2014- Saturday, November 22nd.

Tech Tactics is a day dedicated to Porsche technical information. This event is for the casual information gatherer to the every day Porsche mechanic. Get the latest technical information directly from the source.

Tech Tactics is a PCA National event and will be hosted at the PCNA Training facility in Ontario, CA. This facility is perfect for a “hands on“ type of event. This facility is used to train Porsche technicians on the intricacies of the new Porsches. It is equipped with the state of the art classrooms with lifts and drive train assemblies which will be available for our event,.  Tech Tactics West will be limited to 125 entrants per day. The day will consist of lectures by PMNA and PCNA Specialists, members of the PCA Technical Committee, as well as special guest speakers. 

This year’s event will include will feature presentations covering the 918 Spyder (which will be present for attendees to get an upclose and personal view) and the new Andial Motorsports Program. Jens Walther, President and CEO of Porsche Motorsports will describe the new Andial program along with driver Klaus Viljanmaa. We are also featuring several PCA speakers including Tony Callas, Allan Caldwell, Chris Powell and Mike Mulligan. Steve Calder from Michelin will update us on the new technologies emerging in the tire industry. Darrick Dong of Performance Friction Brakes will be present to provide you the latest on brake technology.

Rusnak Pasadena Porsche will have a parts store available for your convenience.

The event is limited to 125 entrants. The registration fee of $60 includes continental breakfast, lunch and complimentary event t-shirt.

When you register, look at the topics covered under each 'colored' class.  If you pick RED, you will attend those classes. Since we want to keep the size of the classes manageable, switching classes will not be allowed.  This will ensure an ideal experience for each 'student'.  If the colored class you wish to attend is sold out, you may get on a wait list or choose another color.

Calder, Steve

Topic: Tire Technology

Steve received a mechanical Engineering degree from Virginia Tech 1996. After graduation he joined Michelin and spend four years as an industrial engineer at a tire plant. The Steve became a test driver at the Michelin Proving grounds. Three years ago he hung up his driving shoes to become a Product Category Manager for Michelin high performance tires.

 

Caldwell, Allan

Topic: 51 Years of 911 (Upfixin)

Allan is a former aeronautical engineer who has owned nine Porsches since 1958. Actively engaged in military aircraft research and development over a forty year career, he discovered that basic engineering fundamentals apply directly to the ownership, operation and maintenance of Porsches. Allan’s helpful articles began appearing in Panorama as early as 1972. He joined the PCA Tech Committee in 1989 and has been the Technical Advisor for both 914 and early 911 models. He is presently the Technical Editor of Panorama.

 

Callas, Tony

Topic: Porsche Diagnositic Secrets

Tony began his career at his father's shop in Austin, Texas where he was introduced to Porsches and professional racing at an early age. His base automotive knowledge was acquired at Don's Bug Shop in Sealy, Texas by Don & Harold Carr. He then worked for a few Houston area dealerships and received factory training in Porsche, Audi, VW, and BMW before working at two predominate independent Porsche repair facilities in theSouthern California area being Edelweiss Porschaus, Adrian Gang and Redline Service, Pete Zimmerman.Tony currently owns and operates Callas Rennsport in Torrance, California. Callas Rennsport specializes in all aspects of Porsche, BMW & Mini repair. Maintenance & Restoration.

Dong, Derrick

Topic: Racing Brake Technology

Derrick has long association with motorsports. For the last seventeen years, he served the PFC Brake Company as Director of Motorsports. He has a total of 39 years of professional racing brake experience including 21 years as technical liaison with Tilton Engineering.

 

Hood, Roger

Topic: What is new in synthetic oils

Currently celebrating his 30th anniversary with the company, Roger Hood has been one of ExxonMobil’s primary field testing engineers for more than a decade.  Based in Paulsboro, New Jersey at ExxonMobil’s research and testing facility, Hood began his career with ExxonMobil in 1981.

From 1981 to 1999, he was an integral part of various lubricant product developments, including Mobil 1.  As part of his work, he has led laboratory engine and drive train testing, used oil analysis and engine deposit evaluation and drive train gear, bearing and seal distress evaluation.  Beginning in 2009, he began trackside technical support of Mobil 1 Racing with race lubricant development, used oil analysis and various deposit and component distress evaluation.

From 1999 to 2009, he was an essential member of the Mobil 1 lubricant development group as a field test engineer with Mobil 1 proof of performance testing and laboratory support for Mobil 1 racing. Most recently, from 2009 to today, he’s led U.S. based motorsports engineering, providing Mobil 1 Racing field trackside technical support to ExxonMobil’s racing partners including NASCAR, American Le Mans (ALMS), Indy Racing League (IRL), grass roots racers country wide and various other engine builders.

 

Lennon, Andrew

Topics: Topic #1- 918 Spyder and Topic #2- Latest Porsche Technology

Andrew started his career as an automotive technician while studying mechanical engineering before pursuing formal technician training through the Porsche Technology Apprenticeship Program (PTAP).  After graduating from the PTAP program in 2005, Andrew joined the Technical Support group of Porsche Cars North America.  He worked in Technical Support for five years, assisting Porsche dealer technicians with diagnosis and repair of Porsche vehicles.  Andrew then moved to the Regulatory Affairs department at PCNA for one year, monitoring and reporting vehicle emissions- and safety-relevant topics.  He then rejoined the Technical Support group as the Technical Support Project Specialist.  In that role, Andrew performed in-depth evaluation of technical topics to ensure customer and dealer satisfaction.  In 2013, Andrew accepted the role of E-Mobility AfterSales Program Manager and is responsible for all AfterSales topics pertaining to current and future Porsche hybrid and plug-in hybrid vehicles.

 

Mulligan, Michael

Topic: Aerodynamics for real race cars: Practical applications for the stuff WE drive

Mike has worked in racing and performance circles for most of his life, both professionally and as a dedicated amateur.  His professional life has taken him from reliability testing labs, precision machine shops, medical manufacturing and molding, to recording studios, graphic design and illustration. His passion is now his business as owner of a shop in Southern California that specializes in the service and restoration of older and vintage Porsches, and construction and preparation of race cars.  Mike serves as a National Scrutineer for PCA Club Racing and is currently Chief Driving Instructor for the Grand Prix region of PCA.
 

Powell, Chris

Topic: The Secret of Porsche Transmissions

Chris has been a Porsche enthusiast since he was 15 and now is a thirty-six year member of PCA. He has a BS in Chemistry from Harvey Mudd College. He trained as a mechanic at the Seattle Porsche dealership for four years before serving as crew chief and engine builder for the Bayside Racing IMSA Team for seven years. He presently owns a shop in the Seattle area servicing Porsches for over twenty-five years.

 

Walther, Jens

Topic: The Andial Motorsports Program

Jens Walther is the President and CEO of PMNA since 2009. He succeeded Paul Ritchie .Walther (41) has been responsible for the management of Porsche’s One-Make Cup Program, which is made up of 19 national and international championships including its premium championship, the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup. In addition, he coordinated all Formula One related issues for Porsche and its subsidiaries. Walther who joined Porsche in 2001 worked the first four years at Porsche Engineering Group GmbH as Manager, Marketing, Communications and Business Development. Walther holds an MBA degree in International Management from International University in Germany and Arthur D. Little School of Management, Boston.
