PCA National Instructor Training Event & DE

Blackhawk Farms Raceway

About this event

Welcome to registration for the May 29, 2015 PCA National-led Instructor Training Course and Driver's Education Event, sponsored by the Milwaukee Region of Porsche Club of America (PCA)!  We have good news for you!  We have decided to extend registration by a week, and to maintain our lower early registration fee until registration closes.  More details can be found below.

An important note to all participants:  When you register for either the Instructor Training (IT) Course, or Driver's Education (DE) Event, please update your  driving experience log on the MSR registration site.  In many cases, that information is the only means we have for evaluating whether a driver's experience is comensurate with the run group assignment being requested.  Also, this would be a convenient time to update your car information.

The PCA Instructor Training course will be led by a seasoned instructor trainer provided by PCA National.  The instructor training course is open to those whom have not instructed previously, and to those whom have some instruction experience, but no formal training.  Regardless, instructor candidates should have significant high-speed driving experience (preferably a minimum of 15 DE events, at least one of which was on the Blackhawk Farms Raceway track).  If a registrant has less experience, he/she may petition the DE Committee for acceptance, but the decision of the Committee is final.  The course will involve a mixture of classroom and on-the-track sessions.  Those passing the course will be eligible to purchase a card from PCA National identifying them as a "PCA Approved" Instructor.  This card will enable the card holder  to instruct at any PCA-sponsored DE event, anywhere in the country.

A NOTE TO PREVIOUSLY TRAINED PCA APPROVED INSTRUCTORS:  We can use all the help possible from previously trained PCA National Approved instructors!  We want as many previously trained instructors as possible to serve as in-car mentors (to "play" the role of a novice driver, making all the mistakes typically made by a novice driver) while their paired instructor candidate rides in the passenger seat of their car.  There will be ZERO cost for previously trained PCA National Approved Instructors agreeing to serve as a mentor in our instructor training course.  However, we request that all instructor mentors register so we can know how many we can count on.

It is STRONGLY PREFERRED that participants in the instructor training course have cars which can be driven on the track!  If a few participants do not have cars, we MAY be able to work around that issue.  If several do not have cars, that will definitely be problematic.  To the extent possible, we want to avoid having participants driving other participant's cars.

The day will also feature a DE event for experienced drivers only.  No instructors will be provided for this DE event, and is, therefore, open only to Run Group 2 (intermediate), and Run Group 3 (advanced) drivers.  Run Group 1 (novice) drivers are advised to participate in the "Novice-Only" DE event sponsored by PCA Chicago Region at Blackhawk Farms Raceway, on Friday, May 8 2015.  Registration for that event can be accessed at: www.Clubregistration.net.  DE participants in our event will take to the track when the instructor course participants are in the classroom; DE participants are expected to have a lot of time on the track!

Also, please keep in mind, our annual DE event at Road America will be on Friday, August 14, 2015.  The RA DE event will be open to all three run groups, including Run Group 1 (instructors will be provided for the novice group).  We anticipate being set up on MotorSportReg soon after the first of the new year (2015) to accept registrations for our Road America DE event.

Pre-prepared, event-specific, organizer-determined, self-stick, three-digit car numbers will be provided for all cars participating in either the IT course or the DE event.  Our event-specific numbers will take precidence over any other numbers that may appear on a car.  The prefix number will identify the event and/or run group of the participant.  The cost of the car numbers is included in the registration fee.  Participants need do nothing further to order or receive car numbers.  Car numbers will be included in the information packet all participants will receive at check-in the morning of the event.

Payment is required at the time of registration.  You can pay with a credit card, debit card, use pay pal, or pay with an electronic check.  Also, please note that you may purchase a box lunch which will be provided by a Blackhawk Farms vendor.  It will NOT be convienent to run into town to purchase lunch, nor will there be time to do so.  Therefore, all participants are encouraged to either purchase a box lunch when registering, or plan to bring their own lunch!  We will soon select a local hotel for a stay the night prior to our event, and hopefully, we will be given a block of rooms at a favorable group rate.  We will update registered participants as soon as hotel arrangements are made.  This will be done for the convience of our participants.  Obviously, participants are free to stay anywhere they please.  Regardless, it will be up to all participants to make their own hotel reservations.

Participants in both the instructor training course and the DE event are strongly encouraged to have their cars thoroughly tech inspected prior to arriving at the track.  Only cursory tech inspection will be available at the track on the day of the event.  A blank tech inspection form can be accessed on the PCA-Milwaukee Region website, www.porschepark.org.  Once on the home page, click the "Resources" button, then scroll down to the "Regional Documents" Heading, under which you will see "DE Tech Inspection Form."  Please print the blank form and take it with you to a dealer or independent shop to have all the items on the inspection form reviewed and evaluated.  Please bring the COMPLETED tech inspection form with you to check-in on the day of the event.  For those from the Milwaukee Region, a list of dealers and independent shops is also available on the "Resources" page.  Run Group 3 drivers may complete their own tech inspection, if they consider themselves competent to do so.

We will alo require a COMPLETED "Emergency Contact" form to be submitted by EACH participant at check-in.  A blank emergency contact form can also be found on the "Resources" page under the "Regional Documents" heading.  Please print the form, and complete it at home where you will have easy access to all of the information requested on the form.

Check-in will begin at 7:00 AM, the morning of the event.  Please allow time to complete check in and limited (cursory) paddock-area tech inspection prior to the 8:00 AM driver's meeting.  Participation in the driver's meeting is mandatory; failure to particiate in the driver's meeting will result in disqualification from the event.

Garage space is available at the track for a fee.  This space should be arranged by contacting Blackhawk Farms Raceway directly at (815) 389-2000.  PCA Milwaukee Region will have no involvement in arranging for garage space.  All waste tires and equipment must be removed from the Blackhawk Farms  premises by participant.  Pavement damage in the paddock area or other roadways by high point loads (e.g., by jack stands or similar equipment) shall be the responsibility of the participant causing the damage.

Event requirements

We are pleased to announce that new this year, PCA - Milwaukee Region is modifying seatbelt/harness/rollcage requirements for cars in Run Group 3 (advanced), to make them consistent with PCA National requirements, and to be more-consistent with requirements of other similar car clubs.  Specifically, we will no longer require full rollcages and 5- or 6-point harnesses for cars in Run Group 3.  However, we do require that if a car has dual front seats, the passenger seat must have equal seatbelt protection to the driver's seat.

The PCA National Minimum Standards document, in its entirety, is available online on the National PCA Web site (www.pca.org)

Helmets for 2015 events (prior to October, 2015) must have Snell 2005, 2010, or 2015 Specification stickers.  Your helmet will be checked during the check-in process at the track.  Helmets with a Snell 2005 Specification sticker may no longer be used after October, 2015, but therefore MAY be used for our Blackhawk event.
