About this event
Join us on April 26th as we tour the town of Mehama, Oregon. Named after the wife of pioneer James X Smith, Mehama has an official population of about 300 and offers great views of the North Santiam River. Tour this fascinating area with us! See www.bmworegoncca.com/calendar for details.
And what does Mehama have to do with gearheads? Well, it happens to be the home of Canyon Auto Rebody (also known as CAR Autobody). They specialize in collision repair and restoration of BMW, Mercedes, Porsche, Ferraris, and other fine automobiles from the 50s all the way up to current models. They also fabricate sheet metal and aluminum panels for rare vehicles whose parts are simply not available anymore. CAR Autobody is one of the first shops in the Pacific Northwest to have a Celette bench, the gold standard in automotive frame restoration equipment. Experience? They've been using it since 1997. Check them out at www.canyonautorebody.com.
Owners/operators Chris and Kelly Jones just finished restoring a genuine 1963 AC Cobra 289 from drag car back to its original form. They are currently restoring a wrecked '61 Plymouth Concept Prototype built by Ghia, a 1972 BMW 3.0 CS, and even a 1972 Porsche 911 being treated for automotive cancer (a.k.a. rust).
Chris is also going to show the club his personal project/custom, a 1993 BMW 850Ci that has been shortened by 200 mm, with its roof chopped 74 mm. Who knew such exotica existed in Mehama?!
The tour starts with a Driver's Meeting at 10:00 AM at BMW of Salem, but please come as early as 9:00 AM and join the Cars & Coffee. Caleb Moore of BMW of Salem is clearing part or all of their lot to accommodate our BMWs, and is even providing the coffee! We plan to leave BMW of Salem at 10:30 AM.
