About this event
Join us as we tour to LeMay - America's Car Museum in Tacoma, Washington. The LeMay ACM is one of the world's largest auto museums.
From the museum website:
LeMay – America's Car Museum (ACM) spotlights America's love affair with the automobile. Featuring a nine-acre campus – with a four-story museum as the centerpiece – ACM, situated atop Tacoma, Wash., 30 minutes south of Seattle and in the shadow of Mt. Rainier, is one of the world's largest auto museums and attractions when it opened in June 2012.
ACM is designed to preserve history and celebrate the world's automotive culture. The spacious facility houses up to 350 cars, trucks and motorcycles from private owners, corporations, and the LeMay collection, which amassed a Guinness Book record of more than 3,500 vehicles in the mid-'90s.
"Everybody remembers their first car, family driving vacations, a sports car they fell in love with as a teenager," says ACM CEO David Madeira. "Personal experiences with cars are at the heart of the American experience, and we're going to showcase more than a century of automotive lifestyle and history as well as the future of transportation."
From the ACM web site:
Ford F-Series: The Truck That Grew Up with America
ACM hauled in a "trucktacular" New Year with the opening of the Ford F-Series: The Truck That Grew Up with America exhibit on January 10th. The Truck That Grew Up with America highlights the versatility of the Ford F-Series over the years featuring work trucks, hot rods, luxury and off-road vehicles, like a custom 1956 F-100 in brilliant orange and a 2000 Ford F-150 SVT Lightning, a factory-built, supercharged sport truck with a top speed of 140 mph. The Truck That Grew Up with America exhibit will be on view through June 2015. |
Since we will be in Tacoma, why not stop off at Griot's Garage? Here, you will find a wide variety of car care products, such as interior and exterior car products, tire care products and just about anything you need to make your BMW shine. Griot's is a supporter of the BMW CCA and will offer a 10% discount on products and will waive the WA state sales tax if you show them your OR drivers license. Plus, if you buy direct from the source, there are no shipping costs, so this would be a good time to stock up. A map with directions will be provided at the drivers meeting for those interested.
We will meet in Portland and head to the Tacoma museum as a group, so please come with enough fuel for a 140-mile drive, one-way. Halfway fuel stop is at Love's Truck Stop in Napavine, WA.
